Greetings WBers! Lucked out and stumbled upon a decent stash of “dusties” from the ‘70s, ‘80s and a couple from the ‘90s. All the bottles from the ‘70s and ‘80s have tax strips, with bottle dates discernible on the bottom of the glass (except for the Cream of Kentucky).
Now a note about my pricing. While Bottle-Spot and other online marketplaces are hit & miss as an accurate gauge of what vintage bottles are actually SELLING for, I figure that any of these bottles have a value that is at least akin to what an allocated and desired modern bourbon would go for. Not saying I agree with people trying to sell what were bottom or middle shelf bourbons for prices approaching what Old Rip Van Winkle goes for on secondary market, just b/c the bottles have survived from several decades ago and the distillery/label has changed ownership or disappeared. But if a 750ml of Weller 12 year can sell for close to $200 on the secondary market without much difficulty, I think a 200ml bottle of old bourbon for $40 to $50 isn’t egregious. Any decent number of us could walk into a watering hole, see a Sunny Brook 4 year from 1980 listed for $16, and wouldn’t think twice about ordering a round or three.
