AUCTION: Saint Cloud Bourbon ~720ml - 1 previously opened bottle

You likely have no more money left...but too bad! Get in here and see these incredible auctions - by far the best we've ever had for BerserkerDay!!! There's no cost for wineries and retailers to participate in BerserkerDay, so that they can pass the savings on to YOU, so these auctions are donated by the participants to raise money for the forum in lieu of a 'cost' for BerserkerDay! Bid big, bid often!

AUCTION: Saint Cloud Bourbon ~720ml - 1 previously opened bottle

#1 Post by brigcampbell »

Donor: Jim Anderson
Value: Yeah... that's kind of a tough one
MinBidIncr: $1
Shipping: well... definitely not during French banking holidays but I promise you will receive the bottle
Auction Closes: 8pm PT

Quite possibly, at once, the most unique and worst item presented on all of Berserkers’ Day!

You can be the proud possessor of a 2016 St. Cloud “Bourbon”. This is the “Bourbon” crafted by Ray Walker after walking away from a successful and infamous winemaking career in Burgundy. Why does the word Bourbon appear in quotes? On the bottle itself it refers to itself as both Bourbon and Straight Bourbon and has a non-conforming age statement on it. The hallmarks of Ray Walker’s famed attention to detail and the truth are on display so you know it’s a true original!

Special things to know about this bottle:
  • It has, in fact, been opened and a small (less than 1.5 ounces) have been consumed. That’s correct. You will be getting some Ray Walker sloppy seconds.
  • The bottle is signed by a Ray Walker! No guarantee at all that it is THE Ray Walker but there is a signature and it does say Ray Walker!
  • The bottle is numbered! Much in the way the signature is from a Ray Walker the number is in no way indicative of anything. It is 3,482.
  • As a bonus, included with this partially consumed and randomly signed and numbered bottle is a lug nut to a BMW. This lug nut has never been in the possession of Ray Walker, as with most BMW parts, but it is a part to an actual BMW. If you are uncertain as to why this is relevant you should not be bidding on this item.
So, yes, this is a real and true item. Jim purchased this bottle directly from the source and tasted it, Mike Pobega-style upon arrival. Since then it has sat on his lab bench in the winery. Jim drinks quite a bit of Bourbon and despite daily proximity to this bottle it has only had the one initial sip taken from it.

Come on now people. Yes, this is a terrible and ridiculous item but think about it this way...

This is a Ray Walker production and the money from it will directly support Todd and this site. How much is THAT worth?!

Now we’re cooking with gas!

BTW, this is for Todd. Do not buy this to add to some great collection of Bourbon. Be aware of the point. It’s not great booze. Not trying to stop the bidding just want to make sure everyone is in on the concept. Not everyone here today is a super-regular.

I don’t know if we even own any one bottle shippers!

Would seem a crime to have empty slots in a box with more than one bottle slot.

I have a lot of money I’m willing to pledge, but the cash is in a Polaner shipping container and I’m told it will be here in 2-4 weeks or 2 months at the most, so once it gets here I’ll send it to you. In the meantime, just send the bottle to my office.

Well, since I would never expect to actually get anything if I did buy something from Ray Walker...put me down for 50 bucks contributed for 'no reason whatsoever' and ship it wherever the hell you want.

Seriously, I love this idea and want to support it.

We've received an anonymous bid (though a member here, one most of you know) of $200 for this item, provided the money goes to a San Francisco battered women's shelter, and the bottle can be disposed of as Jim sees fit. Jim is matching the donation as well, so while it's not a $400 bid, it's now a matched $200 bid, with all proceeds going to a shelter (likely Woman, Inc. - www.womaninc.org )

Yes, so I received an email from a regular here stating he would put up $200 under the stipulations Todd described.

It’s complicated. Obviously.

I will simplify it. I will match EVERY donation to this group (okay, within reason, there’s a lot of you with way more money than me out there).

This is an insanely generous group. This is an unexpected opportunity to make a statement and difference. Regardless of where this is coming from it is what it is about.

F-ing PONY UP.

Oh, Todd gets the bottle regardless.

I'm in, sending a donation straight to the charity. No bid on the bourbon.

if the winner sends the bottle to Todd or flushes it down the toilet I'll double the donation.

Okay, this got complicated quickly and a red flag was thrown for a replay. Here's the official decision.

The anonymous bid of $200 is accepted and the conditions that the donation be made to www.womaninc.org , the anonymous can make the donation directly and confirm with Todd.

All those that agreed to match or care to participate then please do so by clicking on the above link.

Now for the bottle. That has to go to Todd. Jim, send the bottle to Todd and from now on taking a sip will be a right of passage for any Berserker at any French event until the bottle is gone. We will start a thread which we'll post a picture of each WBers drinking from the golden goblet.

Not sure if this is still open. If so...

The Ray Walker story is long and complicated. Innumerable people here have been caught up in it to some degree.

The bottle posted has an agreed upon bid of $200. With that, from the purchaser, is a $200 donation to an organization for abused women in the SF area. Let’s leave it at that. Extremely worthy cause.

I have pledged to match that $200.

I will match, again within reason and my abilities, any pledges here based upon this item and it’s significance to Todd and this website.

Post and we will hammer out the details.

I’m sure Todd appreciates all that you all have done and I hope everyone had an awesome day. This is the icing.

I’ve matched the $200 donation to Woman, Inc.

I've seen proof from the anonymous donor of promised $200 donation as well!
