We are thinking of spending a few nights in Nice, France

Any recommendations on hotels. When I tried to use the search feature, I just got recommendations for nice hotels in France. Would prefer to stay near the beach.

Stayed at the Hyatt last week, which is across from the beach. Not a boutique hotel, by any means, but if you’re sitting on points from travel/credit card, you can do much, much worse. Views of the water are great (unless you’re on the 9th floor, where the view is partially blocked by a column/walkway structure), the pool is nice and there are some small, street-side cafes with outside seating. Very much enjoyed sipping negronis while people-watching.

In the event you’re considering Monaco - also stayed at the Le Meridien. http://www.lemeridienmontecarlo.com/ It’s definitely on the edge of Monte Carlo, but if you enjoy walking, there’s a private beach and it’s a ~15 min walk to the yacht harbor. Much like the Hyatt, it’s great if you’ve got points to dump, given it’s an SPG property. Corp rate was 180 euros/night, with a bounce up to 250 on the last night because my flight to Paris was cancelled and the rate didn’t apply. Water-facing rooms have amazing views (see below). Property is next to the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel, which made walking over to dinner easy.

Trips back and forth between Nice and Monaco ran ~40 mins by bus/taxi on a hell of a windy road.

The first time we went, we stayed in Villefranche and rented a car for a week… Our hotel had a perfect bay view but was otherwise modest. I loved driving all 3 corniches. We spent most days to the west( Nice or the nearby small towns) and most nights in Monaco. It was a great trip. The art museums are wonderful and every small town has a good/great restaurant.
We have gone back and stayed in Haut de Cagne and in Vence. Staying in Nice for a long period did not have as much appeal to me.

La Reserve de Beaulieu, just a couple kms from Nice toward Monaco. It is very old world luxury and surprising reasonable prices on booking sites. Great restaurant when we were there a few years ago. Beaulieu is small but you can catch or cab a train to anywhere in the area easily and quickly.

Howard check out villefranche-sur-mer. A quaint little Oceanside town that is 20 minute bus ride from Nice. it has everything from clean $160E night ocean side hotels to luxury high end villas. I’m told that Bono and many other celibs have places there. The village itself is gorgeous and unassuming. Lots of fun little restaurants overlook a super quaint little harbor. Not the glitz if Nice but Nice is close by.

Avoid the Negresco at all costs, assuming it’s still there.

Beaulieu-sur-mer. We stayed at the Metropole for a long summer weekend. It was exquisite. Afternoon walks in Beaulieu, easy access to Nice, Eze, and Monte Carlo. Couldn’t get enough of the infinity pool on the ocean.

Love Eze, wouldn’t bother with Monte Carlo. Enjoyed Nice too but its bigger, busier, and less quaint than
villefranche-sur-mer which is very close by Nice. The Stones recorded Exile On Main street there.

Monaco at night was fun but I would not stay there… Pleasant simple Italian/French food, casinos, window shopping. The best car show around is the public underground garage near the old casino.
If you watch the Monaco Grand Prix you realize you are driving the course when you drive the town center.
If you drive the 3 corniches between Nice and Monaco you can channel Cary Grant in “To catch a thief” and have a great driving experience.

Thank you for the recommendations all around Nice. We have been to the area before and would like to stay in Nice, where we can walk to the large market, the beach, etc. Anyone stay at any hotels IN Nice.

Thanks.

Yes, the Negresco. Avoid at all costs.

Thanks, that was the one piece of advice I have on Nice from the thread. Sleep on street rather than the Negresco. [cheers.gif]

Assuming you have me blocked from years back, as I gave you the name of a great hotel, on the strip, on the beach, in Nice.

I’m not a fan of Le Meridien style, but they are in a great location, slightly east of the Hyatt (and closer to Old Nice)

Andrew, thanks for the Hyatt comments, I’ll be there in September for 6 nights. I love staying in Nice myself, lots of dining choices.

We stayed at the Le Meridien during our visit to Nice and loved its proximity to wandering the city. Thanks to traveling too much for work we cashed in points and had a lovely view and time during our stay. The rooftop bar and pool provided a nice setting for a beverage while we planned out where were headed for our evenings.

We were in Nice, among other places in June for our honeymoon. We stayed at the Hotel West End, which is on the Promenade Anglais. We asked for a room with a ocean view and from our balcony looked down on the promenade and the ocean. The hotel itself was clean, rooms were small as it was an old hotel. Elevator worked fine, service was helpful in booking reservations at restaurants. It was nothing special, but the view was worth it, especially to my wife.
