Wine in Korea

Spent a week and a half in S. Korea.

Didn’t see much of any wine in stores or restaurants. After not having any wine, we stumbled in to an Italian restaurant.
Needless to say, we walked out after seeing a KJ wine on the list for W$79,000. At the hotel we stayed at, the bar had
Sassicaia for W$600,000 and a simple red wine for W$100,000.

Am I missing something or does Korea not have a wine culture?

They have wine restaurants but I dont think it’s that big and certainly nowhere near demand for soju and beer. Also wines are much more expensive in Korea. Might be import tax? Like buying a foreign car costs 2x-3x in Korea.

If you want I can ask friends for wine restaurant recommendations.

Lots of coveted Bordeaux and Burgundy, just over the 38th Parallel. [snort.gif]
