Returning Bali Traveler

Has anybody been to Bali before? Any recommendations on hotels, villas or tours? Or best areas to stay? Just in Bali now and can’t wait to come back so starting to find the best options. Traveling in February again next year. champagne.gif

Just don’t take Lion Air!

I’ve been looking at villa options and hotels still not sure yet which one to choose. I found these sites https://www.balivillasandmore.com/ for villas and spoke to them and for hotels I found this site https://balihotelsandmore.com/

Has anybody used them before?

I’m looking at booking some tours when I’m there and this site and lots of different options https://www.balitoursandmore.com/ but my kids want to do this tour https://www.quadbikingbali.com/ Any suggestions for Bali bucket list must do’s??

The Como Uma in Ubud is lovely. If the price is no concern, the Amandari is one of the most spectacular hotels in the world.

On Flyertalk, many of my friends recommended, and we stayed at a one of the Alam Jiwa properties. https://www.alamindahbali.com/alam_jiwa.htm It’s in Ubud, slightly outside town. They have a car that will take you anywhere in town for free.

Places to stay in Ubud come cheap. 4* for $40. High end places for $250 - $400. Our room was 825sq ft (77 sq meters). Cost was $105 2 years ago. Comes with a deluxe breakfast that they’ll serve at the pool or bring to your outdoor sitting area. They have under 10 ‘rooms’, and this isn’t your typical room. There’s a very large bathroom that has an outdoor shower overlooking the rice fields. Total square footage 250’ or about 23 sq meters.

Many of my friends recommended a tour guide named Made (pronounced Ma-day). Check out post 182. Everyone uses him. On Trip Advisor he’s rated almost 100%. You never see that. The linked post has tour info and cost. In wine parlance, he’s like drinking a $200 wine for $75.00. His tour prices are for the car. We paid about $55 per day for an all day trip. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/asia/1395406-bali-driver-car-service-recommendations-13.html#post29372470

Leslie and I are traveling to Bali on Friday. I have already sent a note to Made and will try to book him for a few days. Is good wine readily available in restaurants? If not, do they allow BYOB with a corkage fee? And if so, where are the best places to buy wine in Tanjung Benoa or Ubud?

Mike,

We had a fine dinner at Mozaic. It was board recommended. Reservations are a must. I went looking in vain to buy wine, but ended up purchasing off their list. I can’t recall any of the details. Sometimes Made will send another driver if he’s busy. Insist that he take you out.
We did go to Bali Botanica for massages. Pretty place in ‘downtown’ Ubud. Oh, it’s cheap. Think Thailand re: pricing. www.balibotanica.com A 75 minute massage will set you back $14.29. [cheers.gif]

The duty on wine in Bali is absurd, so it is difficult to find things of interest at a reasonable price. You are only allowed to bring 1 liter of alcohol per person into Bali and it is strictly enforced. My advice is to drink cocktails or beer as it goes better with the food anyway.

Thanks for the info and recommendations. We leave tomorrow!

We had a fabulous meal (with wine pairings) at Bridges in Ubud. Highly recommended.
And booked two days with Made ( though he was sick the first day, but Kedek did an awesome job). Also no problem bringing two bottles of wine in our checked luggage.
Thanks again for the tips, it made our vacation that much more enjoyable.
