Athens Greece restaurants

We’re staying in the Kolonaki area for a couple of nights. Any recent dining recs?

We spent a few nights at the Hotel Periscope in 2019 and thought it was a great place to stay. Our only dinner in the immediate neighborhood was at Barbounaki which was a very chill family run seafood spot. We were the only foreigners in the place as far as I could tell and were the only people there not eating the fish soup. I’m definitely ordering that next time.

Our favorite dinner in Athens was at Oinoscent wine bar and resto which was a 15 min walk, down the hill and into town. Full of wine industry folks and a fantastic bistro style kitchen. They served us a quality flight of 10 Greek wines, all indigenous grapes then took us down into the cellar to shop from a great selection of small production domestics.

We’re at the Periscope as well. Mpirmpilo was recommended so booked there.

A big “second” on Oinoscent. It is causal, with a great wine list and interesting food menu. Pretty much around the corner is Brettos. It is a wine bar featuring a good array of Greek wines. Both of these places are located in the Plaka district for Google maps reference.

Another shout out to Oinoscent - just came back from a 12 day trip to Greece and one of our highlight meals was Oinoscent. Wines were spot on (was our last night of the trip so we went with some French wine instead of Greek wine which we had been drinking prior) though we ended on two nice Greek dessert wines (Vinsanto and Samos). Highly recommend if in the area. Our first night in Athens we went to Avocado, no far from Oinoscent. After ~10 days through the islands on lots of cheese/fish/meat it was nice to have a vegetarian meal. Small little cafe/restaurant type but good vegan/vegetarian options as well.
