First Time to Champagne, Chablis, and Paris... Hell, first time to France!

Hi all,

I’m leaving in a week for a walking tour through Champagne and Chablis (Sept 1-7) with a long weekend in Paris afterward (flying back on the 11th) I’ve quoted the itinerary below, just wondering what I should be expecting/does anyone know these producers.

Thanks!
-Scott

DAY ONE: Hotel Le Marius, your hotel for two nights, Ricey-Bas.
Arrival at hotel in Les Riceys, the village of Ricey-Bas (Les Riceys includes three villages,
Ricey-Bas, Ricey-Haute-Rive and Ricey-Haut).
We meet around 6.30 in the hotel courtyard for an aperitif talk. Dinner at hotel.

DAY TWO :
After breakfast, you will cross Ricey-Haute-Rive to walk North through vineyards and woods,
to the Seine Valley. You arrive in Gyé-sur-Seine around lunchtime.
Champagne tasting at the domaine of Jean Pierre Josselin, who lives in the middle of the
village. Alfresco lunch in the domaine, then afternoon walk back to Ricey-le-Haut, stopping
on the way to see a park in a private château designed by Le Nôtre, the garden architect of
Louis XIVth at Versailles. The family with lots of young children is always very enthousiastic
to show us around the gardens. Dinner at your leisure

DAY THREE : Hotel Le Relais Saint-Vincent, in Ligny-le-Chatel,
your hotel for two nights.
This morning you walk to Avirey-Lingey, to meet Josette and Arnaud Chardin who make an
interesting Champagne. Wine tasting and lunch.
In the afternoon, we all drive with the cars to the Chablis area, (about an hour), to Pontigny, to
visit the famous cistercian abbey which housed three Canterbury Abotts.
Finish the journey in Ligny-le-Chatel, at hotel Le Relais de Saint-Vincent. Dinner at hotel.

DAY FOUR :
After breakfast, Walk to La Chapelle Vaupelteigne, to meet Mr Alexandre in his domaine.
Wine tasting and lunch.
After lunch, walk along the gentle hills on the other side of the Serein river, back to Ligny-le-
Chatel, to your hotel Le Relais Saint-Vincent.
Dinner at hotel.

DAY FIVE : Hostellerie des Clos, Chablis. This morning, after breakfast, transfer the cars to Chablis, in the parking of the Hostellerie des
Clos. You start the walk in Chablis. Walk through Chiché to Fleys, to meet Mr and Mrs De
la Roche, in the Domaine de la Meulière, in the centre of the village. Wine tasting and lunch.
After lunch you walk through the little hamlet of Rameau, then up to Fyé, and across the area
of the Grand Crus, back to Chablis.
Arrival at Hostellerie des Clos, Farewell dinner at hotel.

Never heard of them but that doesn’t mean anything. Have a great trip!

Have a great trip, Scott. France is a wonderful place.

It seems the trip is about the walks as much as anything, and the countryside is really lovely around there. Especially the walk around Chablis should be great. The harvest should still be underway, which will add something to witness. I have (several) nice memories of Hotellerie des Clos too. Re: Champagne the Riceys area is quite famous for its Rosé, but the whole Côte des Bars is otherwise the poor parent of the AOC, meaning there are quite a few younger, active, creative producers around there. With a bit of luck you’ll meet a few of them.
