To jump on a tangent... this is what I was telling you about at dinner. You could fund a third world economy with what I spent on it over two years :)

My guy didn't have that or I would have grabbed it. He did have some others but I figured I'd keep it simple.

Wow. That was super easy. Applied for renewal of my Trusted Traveler Program / GOES account with the DHS on the 13th. Got an email last night from them that my application status had changed. Logged in to check the status and they said I was APPROVED for a 6 year extenstion. No need to come in for another interview or updated photograph. 7 days flat. Completely painless. Can't be our government. champagne.gif

That's odd. JFK is an enrollment center and according to CBP they have Global Entry at least at terminal 4. https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-trav ... s/new-york

I love Global Entry—I make no apology for avoiding those lines! My question is this: I urged my girlfriends, who were accompanying me on a trip abroad last month...to apply for Global Entry....and then the Longest Government Shutdown Ever happened...so while discussing reasons why none of them had yet receive their appointment requests (then at 60 days!), one of the ladies stated that she had a DUI about 10 years ago, and could this be a problem?

GE was great when we recently returned from Mexico to BWI. The FA warned us two other international flights were arriving simultaneously so we should rush to beat the lines. Well, there were long lines for those who weren't using GE. We were through customs and calling uber in 10 minutes or so. Nice way to end a trip.

Sorry. I misinterpreted your comment. Took it for granted everyone in the family had Global Entry. Our is up for renewal the second time next year.

A DUI conviction doesn’t appear to be automatically disqualifying, especially if over 10 years old. You need to disclose it. Canada can also dent you entry if you have a DUI conviction.

You dont need Global Entry. You can go on the same line for free.

Have witnessed it so often in JFK as I usually arrive from overseas with what seems like 3 or 4 other arrivals. The Global Entry kiosk very quickly gets me out of there and into a cab (or subway if I'm not tired) while I see a looooong line with the mobile pp.

The JFK multiple simultaneous arrival nightmare is what motivated me to join the program.

That particular terminal has since been overhauled and is now used for Domestic flights. I'm sure the new terminal 4 can be quite awful without GE.

I have to laugh that you think I am so stupid as to not know that Hawaii is a state.

Global Entry also gains you the domestic TSA Pre benefit. So we got in the TSA Pre line, and my reply mentions both Global Entry AND TSA Pre. As it happened, my family lived abroad for 2.5 years shortly after this 2013 trip, so we used the actual Global Entry aspect dozens of times. And now we are Nexus, which is a superset of TSA Pre AND Global Entry.

WARNING= Mobile passport switched to a freemium version a few weeks ago. I usually read review before updating apps, and when I noticed there was an update I went to the Play store and started reading. Apparently it's now $15/year so the app can do what was once free: scan your passport, and keep your profile. If you want to stay with the free version you'll need to re-enter all the data every time (and not more than 4 hours before landing). If you haven't updated, you can still use the app the old way, supposedly.

Looks like I'm staying with GE for a while, which isn't an issue considering most participating airports have tons of new kiosks.

I have used GE moe than a few times and it has usually saved me considerable time. Just came home from the UK and it allowed me to bypass a hundred+ person line at JFK that I would have otherwise stood in. That alone made it worth it. The fact that a credit card I have picks up the fee makes it even more of a no brainer.

By the way, next month the UK is allowing US passport holders to use their e-gates, which is great.

Reports on renewals are 3 months. As a matter of fact, there's a thread on the very topic on Flyertalk.
So what's the good news, you can re-apply up to a year in advance. Your cards new expiration date will be based on the original expiration date, and not when it's approved. Make sure you use your $100 credit that many credit cards now offer.

When I have a few minutes, I'll link to the FT thread. It will make your head spin with all the what ifs. [rofl.gif]

I went online to schedule my renewal appointment at DFW. The site said that DFW has no appointments available and I was unable to schedule anything no matter how far out I went. I called their local number and left a voicemail but I really don't expect them to ever return my call. Not certain what to do now.

Do they have other locations within driving distance? The Seattle interviews were booked for ~3 months when I looked, but I drove 90 mins north to lock one down the same week.

The nearest other location is 239 miles away. As for an appointment, the Global Entry website shows the conditional approval and says to schedule an appointment. This is our second renewal. The first renewal did not require an appointment.

When I renewed it looked like another interview would be required based on what the page says, however I was never asked to schedule one. I just renewed everything, hit SEND, and waited 3 months.

Renewing is not an option. Scheduling an interview is the only next step available. I do not know if this is because this is her 2nd renewal or not. On her first renewal, no appointment was required. My renewal is coming up in a few months and we shall see if an appointment is required. Have any of you renewed for the 2nd time and if so, did you have a different result? We obtained our Global Entry in 2010 and renewed in 2015. Five years are up in 2020 which will be our second renewal. I suppose it is a moot point if any of you had a different result on your second renewal since the website gives no option but to schedule an interview and the DFW and Austin Global Entry centers do no return phone calls. There is an announcement on the CBP website stating that they have employee allocation issues apparently because they are sending a lot of people to the border to protect from the invading gang members from Central America.

The problem we have is that no appointments are available at all at DFW. Austin is the next closest center and it is 239 miles away.

It looks like the DFW Global Entry center may be open for business again. I have no idea why it was not available for over a month. One person I know called the Austin, Texas center and they made an appointment for them at the DFW center for early December. Crazy way to fly.

Some people are getting 1-year extensions because of a backlog of renewals.

I wish an extension would show up for my wife and me but so far it hasn't.

The extension is automatic. As long as you started the renewal process before the expiration date, you are automatically extended for 6 months.

Solves one problem if appointments become available.

Did my interview the other day. Looking forward to reaping the benefits when we travel to Mexico next week and have to return to the country through LAX.
You will appreciate the huge time savings- it's well worth it especially in LAX.

Yes. Landed at LAX last Saturday. Line was ridiculously long. Thankfully, I just waltzed through.

Waltzing through is a good pace to have. I remember the first time I went though GE, I fumbled around at the ID machine and it took longer to figure it out than it did to get from the plane to the baggage carousel in total.

The on-line stuff (new password, new site, data entry, list of countries you traveled to, and verification with your passport number, drivers license number, etc.) takes about 10 minutes....but other than that. Pretty darned painless. I was re-approved and got my new card within two weeks.

I renewed online (2nd time) 2 weeks before expiration. It’s been 3+ months since and my online status is “still in process”. I travelled out of country late last month and was pleasantly impressed about that automatic 1-year extension when I was TSA Pre before I left and was GE eligible upon my return 1 week later.

Wish that were the case for my wife and I but it isn't. No second time online renewal for us unfortunately. Must be random and we got the short straw.

On the plus side, if you live in NJ or CT or work in NYC it's incredibly easy to get an interview slot at newark, JFK, or downtown now.

I live in NY, have GE, and recently got a new passport. I don’t think I will be able to link them up at this time , but will try
