Hey Seth, can you share how you first heard of BerserkerDay and what caught your interest enough to actually come visit?
At the time, I was interested in finding an online wine forum to increase my knowledge of viniculture and also wineries because my wife hates drinking alone! I discovered the site after some Google searches repeatedly came up - one from an article via Forbes.

From digging through Google news feed, I found it from last year:

Date circled on the calendar (and already thinking about what we might offer).
Malbec, pretty please!
Thanks - that’s a pet project of mine - glad you like it! DM me if you want the current release (2016). We make so little of it - it will not part of BD 11.
ITB - You should only make wines you love to drink.

I insist that all berserker owners/management owe me, or rather my bank account, an apology. I joined this site late this year (though I managed to pick up some Sandler-thanks Ed!) but this is my list from this thread alone. If anyone sees any glaring ommisions, please advise. Black Cat, Ridge, Sandler, Liquid Farm, Patricia Green, Kelley Fox, DiConstanzo, Biggio-Hammina, Wilde Farm, Goodfellows and J B Neufeld. Thanks in advance for any help offered...
EMH Black Cat is sitting out for 2020 BerserkerDay. I will most likely have some kind of January special on my website...offer to be determined after official inventory of my Library, bonded warehouse for storage, and wines stored at my shipper.
Tough losing that bet on the Sixers game, eh?

Your malbec is really good. I'm not massively familiar with the varietal except as a South American, er, cellar defender, I guess, but your iteration made me understand why it's a Bordeaux grape. Great wine.

How about Paetra? Last year was my first buy from them and I haven't even dipped into it yet. But was looking forward to adding to my stash this year.

Paetra please! I've been loving my bottles from that crazy case deal Bill offered from his first vintage. I had bought when they were first released but had enjoyed all those bottles... having more was an unexpected treat (and inevitably will be gone too soon too!)

I would guess in the next 10 days or so because participates will need to start their threads for their offers and I'll need to get cracking on the auction forum. Todd is still working on getting all the cats herded up.
BTW Those forums are hidden from the masses until the great reveal.

I think we're doing the newbies intro threads again, I hope so, because I thought it was very informative.

Yup - making 11 different wines now (yikes [wow.gif] ). Stagecoach Cab is still our largest production and the one wine we’ve made since 2004. Our newest addition will be a 2019 rose’ when we bottle in 2020. When are you flying north - we need to drink some wine!
ITB - You should only make wines you love to drink.

It varies greatly and it's 100% dependent on the combination of risk/reward and trusted Berserker recommendations.

So if a participant is new and they put a less than cool offer up and no fellow berserkers swear on it then those struggle. There's too many other interesting things on BD.

I've been involved in the initial offers for Liquid Farm, JB Neufeld, and a host of others that were quite successful. They were good/interesting deals to get new buyers to bite, they had a story, they were crazy about wine, and they rallied the support of the berserker community to share the reasons why they love the wine/product and why you will too.

The reason I called out LF and JBN as examples is because they are on the extremes for their offer. LF offers are big, glitzy, and larger than life. That was Nikki's personality and it was reflected in her offers. People loved the craziness and when a host of berserkers posted into her offer thread "buy without fear", "awesome juice" and tasting notes it took off. Here's LF first year viewtopic.php?f=49&t=94936

JB Neufeld was a the total opposite. Husband and wife doing a side project of their own. Basically selling amazing juice out of their house. I convinced them to take a shot on BD. Put up a modest offer of excellent Washington cab (there was demand for that which is why I tracked them down) and a little nudging from myself and a few other berserkers into their offer thread that said "can't go wrong here, promise". Brooke was taking orders on her cell phone pulled over on the side of the road while taking the kids to school. I called in the middle of the day to check in, she said "Brig, I can't talk we're too busy". You'll notice in thread there's not that much posting by the community, lurkers are the "dark matter" of the WB universe, probably 10x more people purchase are lurkers. Keeping it simple viewtopic.php?f=66&t=147605

How awesome is that?
Thank you Brig! I look forward to it!

Adam,

It truly is difficult to predict how a BD offering will go. There is no predictable 'rhyme or reason' as to why one offer "kills it' and others do not.

Participation on this board as you do should be a 'positive' but at the end of the day, it really nnot seem to be a determining factor - you will find offers from many folks and companies that are not active here at all EXCEPT on that one day . . .

My advice - get Brig and a few others 'on board' and you'll do fine (heh heh) . . .

Just put your best foot forward, my friend, and be you . . .

Cheers

I disagree. If Kelley Fox was included then I wouldn't be able resist buying them and I'm trying to refrain from wine purchases.
I have been authorized by my wife to have standing orders at all times from only one winery, and Kelley Fox is it. absolutely love everything I've had from her, and she also happens to be a great person.

side note to Todd: she also is very responsive to emails. just sayin.
Not responsive thus far...just sayin

We'd love participate to at some point. WBs have always been good to us. My challenge has always been that BD usually falls within a week of the D&R winter release. We are usually sold out of everything but those wines at the time.

Yes to the former, I don't think on the latter
We'd love participate to at some point. WBs have always been good to us. My challenge has always been that BD usually falls within a week of the D&R winter release. We are usually sold out of everything but those wines at the time.

I'm going to put my thinking cap on. [cheers.gif]
I thought you guys were in when you first started out, no? I'm too lazy to look, as per my signature
No. We've always wanted to participate. We've just have never had enough wine (outside of our parallel winter release).

Looks like my friend Jay, at EIEIO Wines, will have an offer to participate as well! Fantastic Oregon Pinot & Chardonnay!

Imagine:
TWO berserker cuvees:
one collab of the berserker winemakers in Oregon, and one collab of the ones in Sonoma/cali.

it could be glorious.

There's an easy solution Hardy... MAKE MORE WINE!

(Would it help if I added a pretty please to that request)

I think we discussed this in 2016-but think even further outside the box; most here (I assume) only care about what’s in the bottle. Why not put up some shiners, damaged-stained labels, missing foils etc. I’d think most wineries end up with stuff like this, seems like the perfect place to get rid of it.

Getting close to the time to make a bunch of wineries inventories shrink.

Just a few tidbits from behind the curtain...

If I had to guess BD11 will have 100+ offers. All the favorites are there.

There's lots of new talent, the intros are the tip of the iceberg for newbies participating this year. Watch out.

Guess the word got out. LOL

Also, there is more variety than ever. That's been a big focus for us the last few years, recruiting across the palate spectrum. Wines, speciality goods, and paraphernalia that will make you think "hey, I want that and didn't even know I needed it until 30 seconds ago!"

BD11: Stay focused on the amazing people making spectacular wines/goods. It's that simple.

Because presentation matters especially to the ones that are new to certain products.

My only hope is that a higher fraction of those wineries taking part will actually stay around post BD and become active members of the community rather than just being here one day . . .

Cheers

If you think Ridge is going to engage here regularly as you do, MY GUESS is that you are mistaken. I've been wrong before....

Merrill,

You are correct - but there are so many smaller labels that take part, sell wines that one day, and are never heard from for a year. To me, that's a shame - does not help with building a better wine community, which to me is what WB is all about.

Oh well . . .

I agree, and from a winery's perspective, the field has become very crowded. You can only cut one pizza into so many slices.

I get Ridge not participating as they sell plenty of wine to none members. Larry I agree the smaller, interesting wineries should participate as word of mouth sells wine. I don't know how many cases of the Davenport I helped sell (now granted it was 65% off, $30.00 shipping!).

As a consumer, I am always disappointed when wineries just show up for BD and then go silent. They rarely get a second order from me. BD is a great introduction but then you have to keep the conversation going. And the WB community has a lot of influence ... smart marketing and salesmanship is based on building ongoing relationships not just quick single sales.

In all honesty, there's a lot of strong personalities here with a lot of opinions and it can get heated quick, which I learned fast as a newer member. A lot of knowledge as well, sometimes more than you have. As a business person, trying to be the face of your brand, I can totally see how you have very little to gain by engaging in these often heated topics. You are damned if you do, damned if you don't in those scenarios. Nobody wants to alienate potential customers, so I can fully understand how many small wineries back off from much participation. I salute people like Larry, Goodfellow, Jim Anderson, Merril, Ian Brand etc who come here regularly to contribute, even though it might upset some future customer.
