1997 barolo update – the Veglio “Castelletto” was quite nice last night with my wife’s initial (and quite successful) take on veal stew.
Decanted for about half the day. Still somewhat aromatically restrained, with prevailing menthol. Light on its feet, yet a good deal of underlying power. Great spot in its evolution. I suspect it has at least two decades of life left in it. Far from ethereal, or even a blockbuster, but a solid “win” after the 97 experiences discussed above – especially given the very modest tariff! CT is 92, and I would be in that ballpark as well.
