I’d be leery of the 2014 San Giusto a Rentennano [Chianti Classico] if one was considering it. The label states 13.5% abv, but it feels like an underripe and lean – even thin – example of the DOCG region. If one liked Chianti from another era, perhaps they might try this cool year. I found some lavender, sour cherry and iron here, but there is a gritty tannic texture, and a sharp level of acid. For my palate it needs to food to be tolerable. I see that Tim liked it on CT but it’s a B- on my scorecard, and gets unbalanced after a day open.
A plate of chicken Marsala and egg noodles was pretty good though! (I have to keep the sauce separate, since one of the family is skeptical of mushrooms, sauces etc.)
