2014 Patricia Green Cellars Pinot Noir Berserker Cuvée

Credit Card is on fire, but couldn’t resist a case of this fantastic QPR. Just crushed the remainder of my 13’s (I may have one left). Easy buy for me.

Any idea of the shipping dates on this?

To be labeled and packed next week.

Jim, I see you bottled these under Diams. Just the Berserker Cuvee’ or are you using them through your whole 2014 line?

Just opened my first of the '14’s. Should have purchased more than one case.

We have switched to Diam corks across the board.

My case came in today though I won’t be picking them up from my package company until Thursday. Intend to Pobega one but will let the remainder rest. Same for the '13’s - I tried one over Thanksgiving but am in no hurry to get to the rest.

My two cases came yesterday. I may need more, since over a case went to others. Thanks again, Jim!

Tasted this yesterday. Really nice nose red fruits all the way. The alcohol was noticeable on the bouquet. Did anyone find the finish to be a little bitter on the backend?

I need to take a drive out to the valley and pick up mine in addition to a few others in the neighborhood. [cheers.gif]

Exactly what I was going to comment.
I’ve opened three bottles, and each had a slight bitter finish.
Not sure if that goes away with time.

I don’t recall this with the 2013 - so will check in on those soon.

Agreed. I prefer the 2013 out of the gate. The 2014 is still a very young wine, so I’ll make my way through the case slowly.

Yes, kind of an orange rind thing going on there. I didn’t notice it as much with the first bottle that I tried just after delivery as with the bottle I opened last week.

What bitterness there is on the finish (I really didn’t notice anything other than what you’d find in a youthful wine) will go away with time (or food). this is pretty young stuff. Just imagine you paid $40 for it and maybe you won’t all consume it so fast.

Bingo. I believe Jim has said at least once, probably a couple of times now, that just because these are low in price doesn’t make them a daily drinker. Though my understanding is they set the 2014’s up to be more approachable sooner in response to how so many people devoured the 2013’s.

“I basically enjoyed my first bottle but I still need viagra when I want to get intimate with my wife.”

It’s good wine at a great price. Stop getting all Princess and the Pea on us and enjoy life a little.

Jim does us a solid so naturally we try to figure out why this gift horse ain’t for us.

Fwiw, I preferred on day two. While I don’t think this will make old bones, I will probably refrain from drinking additional bottles for 6 (realistic) to 12 months (ideal).

I look forward to pulling this thread up in five years.
Rather hard to swallow that pronouncements as to future life and overall inherent quality is being assessed in a newly bottled Oregon pinot with a track record (winery having the track record, granted not the bottling).
What I tasted reminded me of a barrel sample. It just needs to sort itself out a bit and it’s likely to go in and out of various phases for at least three years.

Opened my last bottle of the '13 2 weeks ago. An amazing difference from delivery to now. Very positive evolution should be in store for the '14 as well.

Unless I missed it, I don’t believe anyone said anything about “overall inherent quality”; people are giving their impressions on how a wine, which everybody understands is young, tastes today. I imagine the wine will taste better in 6 months and better still in 12.

As to the future life, vintage variation comes into play. To me, the 14 is more fruit forward/less structured than the 13. Saying it probably won’t make old bones is not a slam, it’s a realization that some vintages age better than others. YMMV.
