Asian market on Route 1/9 in Jersey City closed - new one on Grand St.

Update - 555 Closed about a year ago but we have an even nicer new Asian market that opened last week on Grand St. in Jersey City - 99 Ranch.

Oh man! We were in JC with a car last weekend, could have checked it out but instead went to Super HMart. Had heard 99 Ranch was going to open in Hackensack, hadn’t heard about JC.

Super h mart is better, but this one is good and very, very convenient for us.

it is just east of Broadway on the south Side of 32nd Street

We just tried Food Bazaar out in Queens for the first time, and it looks like they have a few branches in North Jersey (Fairview, West New York, and Union City). Has anyone been? We were pretty impressed with the cleanliness (definitely better than the 99 Ranch in JC) and the broad range of products (apparently the founder is originally from Korea but then lived in Argentina). The parking lot was also significantly less chaotic than that of any HMart we’ve been to. The one thing that bummed us out was the weak selection of smaller bags of Korean/Japanese rice; we’re not buyers of 20 lb bags.

I don’t know if I think that produce lasting a long time after purchasing means it’s “good” or not.

the H-Mart is on 32nd Street bet 5th and Broadway south side of the block. it is not a great store compared to the Westchester store

Consistency is a virtue

BTW 99 Ranch has some good frozen Ramen. Not as good as our favorite restaurants but better than any of the ramen places in Jersey City.
