That’s not what consensus means!

I get your point, but there is absolutely a consensus that 1982 is a great Bordeaux vintage. That doesn’t mean that everyone agrees.

In 2002 there was a tasting in LA comparing 25 of the top '82 Bordeaux against their other" best " vintages chosen from '59,'61,'86,'89,'90. Each '82 was paired with 2 or 3 other vintages- not the same for each chateaux. The tasting group included very well known French, British and American critics as well as experienced collectors from around the USA who had a special interest in Bordeaux.
The identity of each Chateau was known in each flight, but the vintages were blind(there was an 82 in every flight). At the end of a flight all members were polled by secret ballot as to their pick of the #1 wine in the group. The results were then revealed, with the collectors scores tabulated separately from the critic’s. Interestingly, when there were differences of opinion the critic’s invariably most closely agreed with each other and the collectors did likewise.
As to the place of 82 among the vintages, the critic’s gave an 82 1st place in 7/25 and the collectors gave 6/25
