difference between "ageable" and not

that price point that you mention is pretty typical even for a fairly mid range CdP at release I would guess. Mostly this is related to the fact that CdP is a TINY appellation that is fairly steep in a lot of places. its expensive to work the land and the production is pretty low. If that price point seems a little high, check out an area like Gigondas or Vacqueras. It might not be exactly the same (not quite the same exposure and soil as CdP) but right next door, same grape varieties, and often producers in one also make wines from the other. There are a lot of examples that are like this that can really help with price points.
