Eric Dunham, winemaker at WA's Dunham Cellars - RIP

And here is another touching article. I only met him once and he was very nice as well as generous with his time and wines.

How very sad. Passing away at 43 is an abomination.

For some reason this has hit me hard. I didn’t know Eric, but reading about him, he sounds like a stellar young winemaker. Being in this industry for a long time, it does seem that for whatever reason, our brightest stars seem to fight an internal battle that we simply can’t see or understand. I’m from Oregon and over my career I’ve seen a number of great losses such as this. My prayers are with him and his family. We will never understand, but perhaps this terrible loss will help us all keep a closer eye in the magicians that wander our cellars.

I’ll miss the days when Eric was still out at the airport and I used to sit with him, Ron, and Mark, drinking a massive glass of Dunham or Tamarack and eating at the taco wagon at the picnic tables between Dunham and Tamarack.

I haven’t seen Eric in a while and won’t now, but I’ll miss him. I wish his family all the best.
