Food/Wine Pairing: What with Greek Food?

I’ve had good luck with zinfandel. Syrah from (pick your favorite region) also sounds pretty good.

Etna- Nerello Mascalese

I wanted to BYOB out to dinner, and have a number of Pinots I want to try. I don’t have any Greek wine at home (but the restaurant has plenty).

Thanks all for the suggestions. Think we will forgo the BYOB for the night.

I was thinking Spanish grenache or a good simple rhone. I haven’t had greek food for a while, maybe I need to do that again.

We’ve been enjoying a pasta dish based on a recipe from Michael Psilakis in which he deconstructed one of his mom’s savory pies (pide). So you get the idea: tomato sauce, loukaniko, pine nuts, onions, garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, dill, a little crumbled feta over cheese gnocchi.

Agioritiko has been a great pairing and it occurred to me last night that a fruity sangiovese would be a good proxy.

I like the zin, nerello mascalese, and granache (CdR are flexible in general) ideas. An especially fruity pinot would probably work too. Really depends a lot on what you expect to order.
