Yes thats not hammer price you are referring to, thats all in price. 4 bottles sold in 2021, sellers net is $6100. HDH sold a 3-pack before the single in May and sellers net was just over $6200.
Are you sure HDH is charging a seller’s fee? Two friends have been selling at auction over the past year and both with zero seller’s fees. Either way….sounds like sub $8000/btl which is still pretty light compared to the high hammers on the DRC rouges. I’m just going to hold on to it and tuck it away. Not in a pinch to move it
While pricing discussions are prohibited in CC, I wasn’t particularly concerned with this one as pricing with Burgundy is amazingly dynamic and extremely fluid. $9k will seem like a silly bargain by end of year:)
One thing to note, there was actually more Montrachet bottled in 2018 than RC (4116 vs 4029).
The yields on the whites in 2018 were much higher than the reds.
I do not think that you can correlate the price increase on the reds to Montrachet.
There is much, much less red wine in 2018.
From the DRC labels I’ve seen, some bottlings are massively down versus ‘17, here are a few examples I had handy:
La Tache is 14,275 bottles of ‘18 vs 24,981 in ‘17
Richebourg is 8,227 bottles of ‘18 vs 15,482 in ‘17
GE is 12,176 bottles of ‘18 vs 15,136 in ‘17
I don’t think HDH is charging a sellers fee, I believe WMJ uses information they have and “guesses” the approximate fees but I am really not sure. I can’t imagine how they would be able to know the exact fees auction houses are charging as it can obviously change depending on the wines consigned and who is selling them.
