HDH Auction Follies - Someone just paid $1,800 for a bottle of 2010 Faiveley Latricieres

Tough to go against someone with access to a bottomless wallet.

I guess I get it. They could always print more money but only so '09 Mugnier Fuees to go around :man_shrugging:t2:

I was at dinner with a guy this week who told me he was going after those Mugnier lots. I immediately took down my bids.

Ok, thanks for your analogy! No need for me to look at these auctions anymore, at least for Burgundy. It will be the same few bidders just wheeling bottles around a vault from one bin to another. The DRC is just totally hilarious in terms of relative value. You have done me a great favor

I will tell you that the 2010 Faiveley Latricieres is a fine bottle. These prices are totally out there. Wow!

I was picking off pre-Erwan Latricieres a few years ago, various vintages, at $100 a bottle, most still too tight and tannic are this juncture.

On the other hand, if you are liquidating your cellar, you (I at least) am more than willing to benefit from the folly of multi-millionaires.

Every lot I bid on (all Burgundy) went at high estimate or higher so no winners for me. On the other hand, this is looking good as I’m planning on selling in November auction.

I won a couple of lots at prices I thought were good (below high estimate), didn’t win the lots that were at prices which were not. So, like any other auction

How I’d feel

Pretty considerate of you though.

If by considerate you mean I considered my chances of winning and realized they evaporated, then yes [truce.gif]

You did save him at least an increment. Maybe it’s worth a sip of '09 Fuees the next offline [wink.gif]

The Internet says:

People also ask
What do you mean by effervescent?
Something effervescent has bubbles or froth, like a sparkling cider or a bubble bath. If you have a happy, light, cheerful personality — if you are “bubbly” — you too are effervescent.
Remember, someone with an effervescent personality is just bubbly, not full of gas!

1 Btl 2009 Domaine Leroy Musigny $51,406
all are crazy

I bid on several things in the HDH auction last week. An aside, their auctions are getting too freaking big. Impossible to actually follow the entire auction live. I think it was a total of 20 hrs or so over the 2 days.

Its seemed me that the bids on day 1 were much more aggressive than on day 2. However, I think the more desirable lots were in day 1.

I do like the HDH auction now that they moved to Delaware. Big savings both on tax and shipping since its easy to pick up from DC.

Pikers. I just got offered a case of 1999 Domaine Leroy Clos de Vougeot. $110,000. If you can’t afford to buy by the case . . . .

I did see the 2000 Cos case go for a ridiculous price + premium, and generally burgundy was nuts. maybe a few “values” found in mid tier Bdx.

I bought 2 six packs in two lots on some nice 2015 burgundy which was a nice price vs. retail but other than that struck out on 40 lots lol.
