If you intend to head through the Southern Rhone, the Restaurant Christian Etienne in Avignon was terrific when I was last there, for both food and wine. The sommelier did separate pairings for my wife and I, for two different tasting menus, so we had an amazing array of wines. A night to remember. Also recommend Chateau de Massillan, and if going through Grasse, Bastide St. Antoine. My selections are very wine biased, but I figure that’s the theme here.
