How is 'Modern" Bordeaux aging? Thinking of 2009 and 2010

The 2009 Lanessan, which was delicious in its youth, last year had a bit of pruniness and a slightly off-putting flavor. This definitely hit your general vintage descriptor. However, this year I really enjoyed a Pagodes de Cos. Uh oh :skull_and_crossbones::skull_and_crossbones::skull_and_crossbones:

It’s been 4-5 years since my last bottle, but the Lanessan was/is an 09 I really enjoyed. Still traditional overall but with a richness and depth sometimes missing from this chateau.

Gee, thanks guys, now I’m staring at a three-case K&L shopping cart.

It’s been a while since I had one, but on release they showed a lot of red fruit and acids. It was not evocative of the vintage. It’s one of the few 2009s that I actually bought in quantity.

Definitely red fruited. I guess when I say richness, I should have made clear I meant specifically in comparison to other vintages of Lanessan (which I have liked, but none as much as the 09). The 09 Lanessan is nobody’s poster child of a big, rich wine.

So listen guys. I had a 2009 Giscours tonight and it really showed up all the 2009 fussbudgets and people whining about fruit in their wine on this thread. 2009 is a great vintage people. My friend who was drinking it with me said it best. He said — I want to like classic Bordeaux but sometimes it’s just too thin and funky for me. When I taste this wine it’s very clearly classic Bordeaux but it’s also DELICIOUS and I LOVE IT. That sums up the strengths of 2009 at its best and also the 2009 Giscours I just finished sharing with him. Clearly classic Bordeaux but also freaking delicious. Lighten up and enjoy your wine!

We drank the 2009 Gloria tonight. It was just fine, more classic than last night’s Lilian Ladouys. It seemed quite young and had some old school Bdx weediness, minerality, and tobacco.

It is one of those very rare times I had a bottle on release, and went back to the vendor for more of that 2009 Lanassen. I have not had one in some time, so I’m mildly concerned/intrigued about the pruney aspect mentioned by Paul.

First, and most importantly, Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I hope you’re all enjoying the day with friends, family and a nice bottle or two, or three😁

Sorry I’m a bit more than late to the party here, but, yes, as having been quoted, 2009 is one of the great vintages of Bordeaux! It could be the best between 1982 and 2015, as 2016 is better.

This board is an interesting place, it’s where wines from ripe fruits go to die.

2009 COS has dropped for me from 100 and once I update my notes, which I’ve been slower than molasses on, it’s still coming in at a lofty 97 pts with upside potential.

2009 is a textural experience that I adore. In many ways, as a matter of style, I find it similar to 82s. Except that in 82, the number of great wines produced was minimal compared to 2009.

I’m thrilled to own them. Open them. Share them. Drink em!

FWIW, and I know it’s on the pricey side, 2009 Latour is more than off the hook! It’s compelling in every sense of the word.

Happy Thanksgiving, Jeffois!

So it’s not as great as it was in the past, but it is getting better with age?

Wat

(And I suppose you mean Cos; COS is a Sicilian producer )

Meaning, the wine is not mature. It’s still youthful as my notes state. It is not a wine for you. Scores can go up, and down, depending on how the wine is showing at any given moment. When it’s in the secondary stage, I’m open to it potentially hitting a higher score.

And in the FWIW, everyone in Italy might be confused, but, in Bordeaux, when you write COS, it’s and excepted short hand.

Thanks bro! We are just starting to get organized. What are you popping?

It’s bubbles and 83 Canon over here. But we have 4 hours to go until the family arrives …

With a few exceptions, in both banks, you’re spot on. And yes, everyone should drink what they like. If we all liked the same wine, (Wines Leve Likes,) we would all be drinking better wine.

I was thinking more of that old Oscar classic movie, with me being Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jeff being Danny DeVito. Seems about right.

Sorry to intrude un the Bordeaux love (interesting as I have a few 09s), but how was the Pavelot? I have a few of that, but have found the 2012s to be abit grumpy currently.

If that happens, even in your dreams, wake yourself up, slap yourself in the face, hard, and apologize!

Happy and Healthy and Fun Holiday, Thanks for all of your great notes. My taste aligns well with yours. Like a good steak some like aged beef some can’t stand the bit of funk, some like it bloody and some very well done. Some like only salt and pepper and some butter and garlic and thyme. so this board goes with wine.
