More Direct Shipping Woes . . .

Regarding New Hampshire…

Here’s the story. The chairman of the liquor commission wanted to ban shipments from out of state retailers. National Association of Wine Retailers, along with Wine Freedom, started to work to stop the effort.

NAWR got out press releases, contacted members of the Commerce Committee and hired a lobbyist to help stop it. When NAWR got involved the committee was inclined to support the ban by a measure of 4 votes to one.

Then Wine Freedom motivated NH consumers to contact the committee members urging them to oppose the ban. We all had a week to make a difference since the committee would vote in seen days. At the hearing earlier only 1 person testified: The Chairman of the liquor commision. He told he committee that consumers would not notice the change.

When the vote of the committee members to recommend or oppose the ban came a week later it was a 5-0 vote against the bill that would ban shipments.

Our lobbyists was very clear: "COMMITTEE MEMBERS WERE TURNED AROUND TO OPPOSE THE BAN ONCE THEY HEARD THERE WAS REAL CONSUMER OPPOSITION.

It was emails from consumers and a bit of a lobbying effort that killed the ban.

What this means for the future is that EVERYONE ought to sign up for alerts at WineFreedom.org so that they can be alerted they need to act the next time someone wants to take away your shipping rights or when the chance comes to pass a law allowing greater shipping rights.
