Négociant Wine Company

I am packed to the gills as well, but I offload wine (sell for no profit) to a bunch of friends. So if I see a wine that interests me, I buy a case or two, flip most of it to friends and keep 1-3 bottles. That way, I still get to try it and they get to pay $10-15 a bottle, which they love!

It’s a Ponzi scheme within a Ponzi scheme. :wine_glass:

I’m in the same boat (not The Roxy… yet).

Happy to have jumped on the bandwagon! #46. I still have some signed bottles from when Cameron was at a dinner in Austin. Have cellared the “century” lots and the first black label box set (plus the missing vintage which came out afterwards). Looking forward to the new wines Cameron can source!

Tell us more about this black label box set. Haven’t heard about it before.

I ordered 3 sets - the one we drank was great. We did a flight tasting with family and it was great fun. The 2012 was released later, so I grabbed those to complete the set. Maybe @Cameron_Hughes can add some more color on these and the Black Labels in general.

Black Label sets were CH Wines-era releases.

edit. someone beat me to it.

Supposedly the 2012 is from Harlan (per the COLA). Popped one in 2016 and was damn impressed…especially for the price. Have a few left that I’m holding long-term

@TerryN and I are founding members. I’m #51. Love the idea. Cameron has built up cachet with a bunch of people who know they can trust him to deliver - basically in two days has a quick $51K in funding, no bank loan, etc. I imagine he has a couple of lots lined up. Now can take this money and line up more, and build back up the following. In the past, with his best customers, he just put us on a VIP text and would let us know about a new release before the masses. I think he’s smarter to get some quick capital and we commit to buying with a VIP list of exclusives and early-access. Win-win for everyone.

You guys are killing me with FOMO on the founding memmberships. I spent several thousand on dN since discovering it in 2021 and certainly know I’ll buy from this new venture. However I have so much wine from dN purchases that it’s filled two wine fridges and two closets in my house (which my wife loves to complain about) and we aren’t going through it fast enough. In the past we’d drink a couple bottles per week but as of August my wife stopped drinking altogether and with it being just me I drink one bottle a week at most so addring a bunch more inventory is going to require me to either store offsite or up my weekly wine consumption!

I love how you presented a problem, then solved it, in your own post!

Yep, totally agree - very smart from a biz perspective. He keeps taking it a step further with each new project. Cameron Hughes wines was well priced bulk juice through normal distribution channels. de Negoce had the futures/pay in advance model which was a great way to manage cash flow. And now Negotiant Wine Co has peeps paying money before the wines/offers are even a thing yet.

The only reason something like this works is because he has built a loyal following and has a ton of people who trust that he’s going to deliver good wines at great prices. Gotta tip your hat to the guy - pretty damn impressive!

@Cameron_Hughes welcome back. I’m Right on the fence on if im in for a founding member…like most of yall I bought the $1000 20 times over with dN so I’m sure I’ll be a buyer well Beyond the 1k but like many of yall I’m stuffed to the gills with wine.

Few questions for cam.

  1. Anything you plan to do differently with the new venture (other than the boat).
  2. Final leg shipping? . Living in Texas I do have to say that has been nice to not stress bout summer shipping
  3. Will we be returning to the more clues in the write up? The new dn owner seem to lay it on thick that the NDA are having to be tighter…is that just them or have the wineries wised up and it’s going the that same tighter write up for you to get access to the best deals.
  4. Can we have a code word for when you buy from 213 and 241 and 230/240.

@Luke_Newton, you’re on the fence?! You may not be able to FOMO into this later. The Ponzi can only go on for so long. The first offer may be the 2023 version of n.17 that sells out to founding members because I buy most of it.
We know you already signed up.

You guys are acting like a two year old on Christmas morning. How many more cases can you fit under the tree after buying massive quantities of Cabernet the last four years…a bit way over the top in my opinion

Hi All - Love the enthusiasm and also agree, a tad overblown (but understandable). Crafty biz proposition - note that both Founders Club and all purchases appear to be “plunk $$ down in advance” so Cam is working/using our $$ for (hopefully mutual) benefit. Here are a few suggestions for Cameron/team:

  1. Six Pack Purchases - enable Founders to buy/store 1/2 cases vs. full cases at the same price. The option is esp appealing for higher-priced vino - not all of us can afford to pony up $250+/cs for sight unseen, but a six-pack is a more reasonable/justifiable option. The notion to store 1/2 case until I buy another 1/2 case is a no-brainer, as I’ll surely buy into a future entry. You can even charge us for storage post-bottling…this model works for many flash sites.

  2. Advance Notice - already noted, essential to “preferred status” expectations.

  3. Bonus Points - I’ll probably vary from the crowd here - no need to F- around with bonus points and gamification of purchase activities. The cost of doing so offsets the benefit, IMHO.

  4. Community - The tasting event Cam hosted at Martin Ray was outstanding and fun! Meeting a bunch of other fanatics was cool, as was geeking out on the vino with some members of the deN team. This can/should be both virtual (ala sites like this - consider adding some virtual tastings) - as well as in-person or “On Board” to help pay for slip costs.

Cellar is still pretty full of aging Cabs from the earlier days…and so much outstanding juice in '23 and '24 without a home, this is a nu-brainer of an endeavor.

Let’s be clear, this is not a pyramid scheme. The size of the pool beneath you only gets you bragging rights. The only one cashing out here is at the top. With that being said I agree with everyone above that every one of Cam’s ventures seems to have built on the one before and I’m fired up to see what TN brings. I do have one small concern, the WSJ article said TN would sell wine in the $10-15/btl. range. That was not dN’s sweet spot IMO (unless we get multiple lot 77’s), There should be some really high end wine hitting the bulk market and even with all this founding member cash sitting around prices will need to break $20 on occasion.

Especially agree with point #1. For any lot that cost over $20 a bottle (or $25): Buy 6 for half the price of 12 and you have 3 months to buy a second six pack and it ships for free ( or the cost of a case if shipping is not included) sure it might be a warehousing struggle ( we all remember that martin ray did fix many of the logistics struggle)

With my cellar bursting at around 400 bottles and 350 are likely dn. It’s mostly closet space with a 50 bottle proper wine fridge that gets 3-4 bottles of each of my fav lots for consumption in 5-10 yrs (50/100/200/241/300/385/390/ 401/429/468/500 have made it into the fridge)…so I’m more interested in 6 packs of the good stuff (bc as noted by @Brianschool i love dn 17 but litterally wasted 10 bottles too soon and only realized on the last few bottles how good it was and then I repurchased 18 more). Now that I understand my palate and aging better I think 6 is the sweet stop for me for the nicer wines. I actually pace myself with 213/241/274/300/385/390 bc I know they are good.
