PSA: Kinda ridiculous Bonny Doon sale

Well, John…probably the Qupe X-Block or Hillside Reserve. Maybe a bit simpler than those.
Tom

Double check my order has a $138 shipping charge showing but I only paid $20 a case.

Had to go back for a few more Sunday. They had popped a few corks (actually screwed a few screws?) and I was able to try a Le Cigar Volant 1995 and 2000. The 95 was good though, for my palate, on the downward slope. The 2000 was really nice, bright and alive.

When I got home I read though some of the literature that was passed out. News to me was Randall’s suggestion that wine under screwcap goes through a fairly immediate dumb phase different than under cork. Anybody else with this experience? He commented that when the 03 was released many did not like it but several years later it really blossomed.

From their website:

Wines sealed with screwcaps, while emphatically capable of long, indeed brilliant ageing, often go through a longer and perhaps deeper (or darker) “dumb” or “closed” period. (N.B. Virtually every great wine, no matter what its closure goes through this so-called “backward” phase – it is in fact prima facie evidence of its ability to age and complex.)

My wife opened a 375 of the Le Cigare Blanc and liked it. "Honey, you did not buy to much wine this time!. This was a first.

We had a pizza party last night with some old friends (grilled pizza though we cheated and bought pre-made crust). I figure this was a good chance to try out some of the bottles.

We opened the 2016 Le Cigare Blanc Reserve which everyone loved. Excellent white with a wonderful mouthfeel, great balance and tropical fruit. (67% Grenache Blanc and 33% Roussanne) Next was the 2012 Le Cigare Reserve and the 2013 Bien Nacido X. I was frantically trying to keep up on the grill so just had a brief impression but really liked both of them and glad I have more. Finally opened up CA Del Solo 2004 Nebbiolo. Took awhile to open up but it really did blossom and was great with the pizza. This can go for many more years. Wish I had purchased more of this. This was the oldest wine I have ever had under screw-cap and really showed that the closure did not prevent it from aging. Would love to do a side by side with an older bottle of the same wine to compare screw-cap to cork development.

I think everyone who took advantage of this opportunity will be happy with the results. I have always enjoyed BD wine but thought they were a little over-priced. Glad I had a chance to check these out.

I would love to get a report card of the sparkling vermentino.

Clean and citrus flavor, more grapefruit then lemon. Very soft bubbles which gives it a creamy note. Not the most complex wine but one full of enjoyment. Only bought 3 and should have doubled it. Fun stuff.

Thanks
I missed out

Some really good deals. The mags were a bit more for shipping as expected.

Arrived this morning

Just got an email saying that despite taking my order, they are having issues registering the wines for shipment to Connecticut.

Got mine last week . Haven’t popped any yet.

After getting a six pack between Ravenswood & Carlisle cool offers I’m glad I bought two cases here.

Same for Illinois

Mine is meant to arrive tomorrow. Definitely popping one of the Semillons despite the warning that it’s meant to be a long ager. I got a bunch.

UPS tried to deliver twice – once while we were here all day – they appear not to have knocked on our door. Afraid that it may all go back to the winery. So others may be able to buy our lot if interested.

I just logged on and paid UPS 8 bucks to deliver my 3 cases in a two hour window. Seems like money well spent, so I won’t have to wait around all day or go pick it up at the hub.

I’m so glad my storage accepts shipments for me, so much easier!

Got mine last week. Tried the Semillon, but didn’t get excited about it. Felt a little thin. But at that price, still a good buy. I look forward to the older Le Cigare Volant’s.

Yeah, the low ABV is gonna be interesting. Popping one tonight.

How low is the ABV and what vintage? These are wines that historically are lower in ABV but pick up body in bottle over years and years . . .

Cheers.
