Good to know how a non-existent or non-delivered wine would taste.
I, as did many others received there 09’s from Ilan. I’m not going to defend Walker here but there was no reason not to review these wines.
Victor, I’m gonna cut you off hard at the pass. I spent a couple of weeks unpacking 6-7 pallets of MI wine and putting the bottles into shippers for existing orders. The tendonitis I developed in one elbow was evidence enough.
I strongly suggest you find another topic for this thread.
I never opposed rating them.

Am I wrong that people are still waiting for long-ago fully paid goods?
Nobody questioned that some people received deliveries or that some people worked hard and genuinely to enable so.
Were there reviews for any wines post-2013? I shipped wines from that vintage.

he rated the 09 and 10 on release. I just checked and he rated a 2012. I didn’t read the review but it was a ?. As you know he will include anything in his database that he tries.

Victor- people will be made whole.
As soon as OJ finds the real killer, he will assist Ray in fixing the mixup with the French authorities and securing release of the held up barrels.

I was asked to discuss in this thread a topic other than the topic of the thread.
We dumb noodle-slingers just cannot figure out logic.
This thread is the gift that keeps on giving. Like herpes.
I think WINEBID needs to update their info?
PRODUCER
Maison Ilan
Maison Ilan is a Nuit-Saint-Georges negociant with a made-for-the movies backstory. It was founded in 2009 by a young American named Ray Walker who had been a stock broker until his late 20s, when he fell in love with the wines of Burgundy. A native of the Bay Area, he was introduced to wine by the woman who is now his wife and in 2008 he started washing barrels in a Sebastopol winery as a way to learn about winemaking. In 2009 he moved to Burgundy and purchased some Charmes-Chambertin grapes, which he vinified by using methods he read about it classic 19th century French texts on winemaking. Walker’s debut 2009 vintage of 11.5 barrels was sold to mailing list customers. Since then he has continued to produce the Grand Cru Charmes-Chambertin and added the Grand Crus Chambertin and Mazoyères-Chambertin. He also produces numerous Premier Crus. All wines are produced in small quantities and available generally only by mailing list.

Factually inaccurate, among many things.
Hi all, thanks for your comments on this and highlighting it to me publicly and privately. There seem to be two questions in this thread- whether the wines are real and whether the producer description is accurate or appropriate. To the first question, I can tell you that these wines came from a vetted, known and trusted consignor, and passed our detailed warehouse inspections. As many of you suggest, while many people did not receive their wines and allocations, many (including some of you) did. So we believe the provenance and quality to be as listed.
On whether the producer description is accurate or appropriate, I am looking into the accuracy question. You all know by now that I appreciate factual accuracy. Appropriateness is subjective but I will review that as well. This producer description was written a long time ago, by staff who are no longer here. For the most part, our staff writes the producer descriptions, and only occasionally are they provided by the producers themselves.
To be clear, WineBid does not deal directly with Ray Walker, and is not associated with him or his wines, outside of wines being consigned as part of a larger, diverse collection.
Thanks so much for everyone’s continued enthusiasm and support.
There’s a lot of people here who would LOVE to write the producer description for these wines Russ! I’m sure some examples are on the way…

Herpes is so 1980’s. Covid-19 would be more contemporary. Ray and his ego would be duly impressed.

Sometimes, no description is the best policy, as there is nothing to dispute or to raise emotions.

I am sure you have performed your due diligence, and are certain that what you have for sale are authentic Maison Ilan bottles. What people are alluding to is what is actually IN those bottles. Lots of concern exists in the minds of lots of folks that the label might state one thing and something else is in there.

Anybody who worries about non-Burgundy wines in those bottles that is just so rhone.
Even Rudy could figure out how to make wine with sufficiently quantity and timeliness to fulfill demand. Just ask John and Allen.
“…that is just so rhone.” WTH are you talking about, Victor??

What the heck does “WTH” mean? English is not my first language.
As a favor, may you please translate this new story? Thank you.

How about if we bid for that assignment, in an auction? Maybe, the writer can discuss if “con” and “assignment” can be conjoined to form “consignment”.

Why would anyone go to the trouble of forging wine that nobody has heard of outside of 0.001% of the wine community with absolute zero value in any market?
