When did Desjourneys move away from new oak? I had the 09 Moulin a Vent a few months ago and it was much too polished for me.
I believe that 2015 is the first vintage with zero new oak, but I will verify that with him next time I see Fabien. Certainly, the 2015s show no oak influence and are absolutely superb.
Flicking through my notes I find him saying “I started out thinking I’d make Burgundy in Beaujolais; now I make Beaujolais” and “it took me ten years to understand this cépage - Gamay is malleable, but what’s the best way to make it? I concluded it doesn’t need additional tannin from new oak”.
Thanks William - that’s very useful.
