Schrader vs Maybach

DrewT brought a '08 Grand Vin Kapcsandy to an offline a few months ago. He enjoyed it, but I’m going to let my bottles rest.

My order of preference:

  1. M
  2. S
  3. K

Goes to show you there are never absolutes and there is good reason your foot can fit into your mouth with some force: Last evening Antonio Galloni brought 2 Schraders to dinner with the group, a 2006 T6 and a 2007 T6.
The 2007 was all nose and no midpalate (to me) but the 2006 was SPECTACULAR after sitting for a bit. Closed nose at first but then it burst onto the scene with purity and class. Pretty black fruits. Probably the best showing of a Schrader I have had in recent memory.

We also had a 2010 Maybach Materium that although an infant showed some beautiful delineation and elegance. Once these get a few years in the bottle they should also be pretty spectacular.

Mike,
Curious to know Antonio’s thoughts on the Maybach in this setting. On this night, did he find it ‘diluted and lacking in complexity’ as reported in WA#204?

What were your thoughts on the 2010 vs. previous vintages?
