Single greatest American wine ever made?

1978 Volcanic hill, from Dimomd Creek

1964 Louis Martini Special Selection Cabernet

1968 BV Private Reserve Cabernet

Best I’ve had is the 1987 Phelps Eisele.

1974 Mount Eden Cabernet Sauvignon (Merry Edwards was the winemaker at the time).

1948 Martin Ray

1974 Martha’s
1951 BV Latour

I can only say the best I have tasted, not the best ever made. For me, it was 1991 Ridge MB

For me it was the 1978 Phelps Eisele

You just gotta have it, don’t you? Now that’s the proper American attitude!

I’m not sure it’s the greatest - I’m certainly no Cali expert - but that 68 BV was excellent when I had it a few years ago. Stood its ground following a mature Petrus.

Maybe not the best, but a bottle of 1986 Jordan cab was my epiphany red wine.

I’ll cast another vote for '74 Heitz Martha’s. I’ve had some really excellent Monte Belli, and other fantastic vintages of Martha’s (and Trailside and Bella Oaks) too, but the 74 is just at a different level.

Totally agree.

1978 Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill

74 Phelps Eisele and 95 Insignia. Fortunate to have a few left.

FWIW, I will add another vote for the '74 Heitz Martha’s [cheers.gif]

1971 Ridge “York Creek” Petite Sirah

Be serious.
Cheval Blanc 1947, no question.

American??? Since when??

Ask John Kapon.

They say the 1978 Lake is supposed to be even better…now there’s a unicorn.
