Tips for a couple days in Austrian wine country?

+1 on Brundlmayer’s Heurigenhof in Kamptal.
Also Nikolaihof’s is good as well in the Wachau.
A really cool ride and view is to drive to the top of the Heilingenstein vineyard in Kamptal, take a picnic lunch and a bottle of wine.

Not sure if Heuringer start when you are there but in the Wachau, like in Weisenkirchen, look for homes with a wheat wreath and ribbon displayed. This means they welcome visitors for a home cooked meal and wine, usually in the garden for a small fee. A wonderful experience.

going into any private home, it would help to have the local language at least on the back of your palate

most anybody in the hospitality industry in Austria these days delivers excellent Englisch,
but once off the well-trodden path…
