TN: Monumental Barolo dinner - Monfortino, Giacosa, Taurasi and La Romanee

I’m so jealous! But I do have two bottles of the 1968 Taurasi which I sourced from European Wine Resource in Richmond, California. They are importers so their wines are impeccable, and the bottles are wrapped in a plastic bag of some sort, with great fill levels. This was after Antonio Galloni’s review but before the prices went insane. Would you reccomend a decant or simply opening the bottle for some hours?

I seem to remember on the old board an ongoing war of words over, I think, a 1971 Taurasi Radici that the majority of the folks at some tasting thought was road kill soup but a significant minority thought was wine of the night if not the year.

Anyone remember deets?

Leonard,

The Mastroberardino was much better after being opened for a couple of hours and still had plenty to show.

Thanks Tom; this what I was thinking but it’s unusual for a wine of this bygone vintage!

thank you
