I found the 1996 to be disappointing, perhaps more so than the 1988.

Agreed, I had high hopes for the 1996 and while there was nothing wrong with it, it didn’t live up to expectations.

Exactly - wasn’t a bad wine by any stretch, but just didnt excite.
