TX Hill Country Wineries

It’s a mixed bag for beer in Texas, but there certainlyARE some good beers around North Texas. It’s just that many of the locals might have one or two great beers and the rest of their line are a bit of a pass. In Dallas, some really good beers for you to try are:

  • Community Legion (sooo good)
  • Community Wit
  • Lakewood Temptress (many varieties - I like the original)
  • Peticolas Velvet Hammer (yummy)
  • 512 Whiskey Barrel Double Pecan Porter
  • Revolver Bood and Honey
  • Jesterking (practically any)
  • Franconia (true to the German lager)

Let’s be fair - we are not Portland and we are coming from a wasteland of beer, making great strides to great beer. The scene is thousands times better than 10 years ago!

Unless Houston means Texas my point remains. You didn’t list a single Houston brewery.

And to leave off Live Oak Hefe from that list is a sin!

I attended a wedding in a large pioneer-style pavilion on top of the hill above Dry Comal Creek Winery. The Petite Verdot and the non-vinifera Black Spanish reds were pretty good.

I don’t know where Adam Lee’s been hiding, but he could recommend a few.

Sorry, Nolan. I was defending Texas beer whereas you were being critical of Houston only. BTW - St. Arnold Elissa IPA is a decent beer.
