What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2)

Last of several bottles purchased 5 or 6 years ago at ~$20. A tasty and versatile wine.

Jean-Marc Vincent Les Gravieres 2020, after a day tasting mostly lighter styled producers 2023 and 2024s this has a bit more clout. Brambles, lightly spiced, lovely clarity and elegance still.

Love this. I often see brambles in his reds, quite distinctive.

Cantina del Pino Barbaresco 2018
Enjoyable. Red berries, rosebud and slight blood orange. Lithe frame, powdery tannins, well-behaved acidity and bright fruit flavors.

Château Chasse-Spleen 1996
Good thing, I’m old wine tolerant. This is definitely on the decline and barely hanging on. Old musky nose with dirty water and prune peaking through. On the nose alone, this was sink bound. However, there is still some red fruit, slight acidity and tannic presence moving this zombie along. I soldiered through half the bottle and opened a Raffault Picasses for the people I love.

Olga Raffault Les Picasses 2016
I only had a testing pour of this. Always lovely. I should have had more.

Yesterday with the Mt P blind tasting group.

No yellow mustard—some bizarre reflection I guess.
No notes taken. I got everything(ish) but the Sandlands; ironically I drank one just like it a couple of weeks ago.
All wines showed well.

Damn! Sorry about the Chasse-Spleen - what a disappointment. Glad the Picasses helped.

After buying one of these at a wine store in Paris yesterday, we found it on the wine menu at Willi’s Wine Bar tonight. This really benefited from some air. The first 30 min were way too tight.
It paired well with my butcher cut steak. Pretty strong green olive taste in the beginning. Black pepper and plum after it opened up.

We enjoyed this, but in our opinion, it needs to be paired with food and the right food at that.

I truly enjoyed that bottle, almost as much as the good company. Is it available in Indiana?

I can get some to you if David still holds some. Let me check and DM :+1:

Carlo Revello & Figli Barolo Giachini 2018
I can’t think of a 2018 Revello i didn’t enjoy without overthinking it. Red fruited, red florals, earthy with a bright palate with powdery tannins and medium finish. Easy to drink through.

Christophe Dechannes Perle Noire
We sell this. Well… we took it off the digital shelf for 6 month as it just wasn’t ready to drink. It’s finally back in gear and drinking well above its price point. Nice cuvée.

Fun. End of evening fun.

Popped and poured. Needed time to open. Still needs more time. Wait another 3 years?

Interesting, I found it much too reductive the other night, even after several hours of air.

Had a '12 the other day
