I like truffles, they make it into my top 10 list of favorite mushrooms, which means I never buy them as I prefer morels, chanterelles, trompettes and a number of others at less daunting prices.
Yes, the trick with eggs works really well. When I worked in a top French restaurant, the chef would put one mid-sized truffle in a five gallon just and fill it with eggs. Truffle-perfumed omelets were an expensive luncheon special, complete with no truffles whatsoever (they explained that when you ordered). Really cost-effective for the restaurant, I guess you can fit ~3 dozen eggs in a jar and also then use the truffle.
