2 beauties from the Loire Valley - Boulay & Crochet

The Sancerre was so steely and minerally, a great match up with a spicy pork noodle dish. Just evaporated in my mouth and balanced the heat so well. I wonder if the cold reaches of California could do this to sauvignon blanc - so much different than the warm area renditions.

The rose was a revelation, forgot about this one in cellar and thought it was dead for sure. Surprise! Not sure I have ever had a rose this old and by far the best to date. I picked up a handful of Bordeaux roses a few years ago and they didn’t last 18 months before completely falling off a cliff. I am a buyer for all future releases of Boulays rose’s - the real deal!

What a rose! Out of cellar very dry, steely and minerally. Paired with a pesto salmon dish and went perfect. As I brought it up to fridge temp a little strawberry came out with a long, dry, salty, briny finish. So much going on. Great mouthfeel. One of the best blush wines ever for me.
  • 2012 Lucien Crochet Sancerre Le Chêne - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre (3/7/2016)
Stunning nose - very minerally, slight honey influence, stony. Palate is honey and more rocks, citrus and plenty of acidity. Very, very good at the moment. Fresh as a daisy tonight.
No grapefruit or cats pee on this Sauvignon Blanc.

It’s funny how a lot of people here talk about Boulay’s rosé but very rarely you see anyone mention the whites. I wonder why that is? I have really enjoyed his regular Sancerre blanc.

I have also enjoyed Boulay’s Sancerres. Also love the L Crochet wines, thanks for the report.

I tried a Boulay shortly after enjoying 2-3 Cotat, and I was disappointed - just fruity and easy in comparison. John Gilman likes Boulay’s wines a lot, so I should re-visit.

I have a bottle of 07 Boulay Sancerre La Comtesse Monts Damnés that I will pop soon - the CT notes look like they will be great. I also have some 14’s on the way but unfortunately the word is out and they have gotten expensive.

I have always enjoyed the Crochet wines, even showing well after several years in bottle.
