AlderYarrow: DryFarmWines...

Alder, in his latest blog:

takes DryFarmWines to task for being “full of shit”. Strong words for what is usually gentlemanly wine writing. He even wants us to
report them to the Feds.

I’ve not had any experience w/ DryFarm wines. The specialize in “natural” wines, which would normally give me pause.
Anybody had any direct experience w/ any DryFarm wines. Their marketing schtick is a total turnoff.
Tom

Been a long minute since I have had Alder on my radar but that was a most entertaining 137 seconds and I read it start to finish without getting distracted.

Chapeau!

Not too difficult to take this stance - so much crap out there re: marketing to wine consumers about ‘clean’ or ‘better for you’ wines . . .

I’m waiting for one of these companies to mention that their wines show off the ‘true terroir’ of their sites . . .

Cheers

He’s late to the train. Since their social media ads have been going a few years, and the algorithm hits a lot of winemakers, they’ve been reacting to years of open mockery and doing a sort of tactical retreat on a lot of the most egregious claims.

One funny thing is they claim very low SO2 plus a lack of faults in the wines they broker. They also provide year round shipping, nation-wide. All those different wineries producing wines that stable with Cornelissen 1.0 level SO2? They claim they test all the wines for additives. Perhaps those tests are well crafted. Or, what’s going to be tested for is available to the winemakers. Or, perhaps, well “why” would they need to test for methanol, like if it’s at some statistically significant level that’s still low?

That was a damn good read!

I honestly cannot believe the TTB allows them to operate with their current marketing scheme.

Shady advertisements that toe over the line of wine as a health product should be instantly shut down by them, especially based on the size of their marketing reach. Not only is it misleading and effectively illegal advertising, it’s doing serious damage to the average consumers knowledge of wine.
