Best Wine Deals this year! 2018 Edition

Best QPR or best discount?

My best QPR: a tie, 2015 Siran ($28) and 2015 Faury VV ($33)

My best discount: a pristine bottle of the 1980 Pichon Lalande for $55

Six f#@$kin’ dollars?!!?

The 2007 Prums at $7 years ago were obviously better but we have a few shops in Minneapolis that are great at getting deals on the wines when distribution changes hands. Many distributors want to unload the brand all at once.

2010 Arnaud Ente Clos de Ambres - $165 per (only two available, sigh)
2012 Pierre Damoy Chambertin (9) and Chapelle Chambertin (1) - $99 per

Haven’t tried the Ente’s yet, but the Damoy Chambertin is stunning.

Quarter Pounder or Big Mac? [cheers.gif]

2015 Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino $9.97
2012 Giovanni Sordo Barolo Gabutti $19.97
2012 and 2013 Prunotto Barbaresco $19.99

Cases of 2015 Eyrie Original Vines Pinot Gris for 199. The vines have phylloxera and won’t last as long as the wine will.

1986 Rieusssc 6L for $240 in OWC, direct closeout from distributor.

1945 Château Talbot 1.5L from same, they’ve had it since the early 70s. $500

Also lucky to get things at wholesale from ITB friends. Stupid pre-order discounts of 25 off wholesale for some Champs. Dangerous when that includes bubbs with the same name as your child.

Bollinger Special Cuvee $50 not bad price this time a year
G.H. Mumm “Cordon Rouge” Brut $19.99 (saw this for $56.99 at another shop)

2014 Cameron Hughes Chardonnay Santa Rita Hills Lot 669- $18.
Shiners, producer on cork.

WL just posted a decent 3 pack; 2013 livio sassetti brunello, some random toro, and 2011 oakville ranch for $80. They had the sassetti for 50 the other day and it looks like 55 is going price, so 2 random bottles for $25; I think oakville ranch is a decent wine although 2011 kinda sucks.

I enjoyed shopping at Sunfish when we visited Minneapolis, John. I also liked North Loop wines but I never saw pricing like that.

2015 Canon at $91/btl, in September at a local store’s 5th anniversary sale.

1996 Duval-Leroy Femme de Champagne for $99.97 on a Costco blowout

1996 Duval-Leroy Femme de Champagne for $99.97 on a Costco blowout

Wonder how long that has been sitting there or did you just notice it? Good thing about Costco is you can return a wine if it is flawed.

Visited Marta is NYC in mid-Dec. They had 2010 Bartolo Mascarello for $210 a bottle. I couldn’t believe it, but my fiancee wasn’t feeling like red that night, so we went with Krug 164e for $90 a half bottle with white truffle pizza.

2014 Torres Vina Sol, on closeout for $5.99, was the first time I had seen a swallowable wine at that price point in about 15 years.

2011 Allemand Reynard 99 €
2000 Cuchet Beliando Cornas 75 €
2016 Dauvissat Forest 54 €
2003 Domaine des Tours Merlot 25 €
2013 Pierre Gonon Saint Joseph 34 €
2014 Francois Cotat Les Monts Damnes 30 €
2001 Clusel Roch Cote Rotie 110 € at a restaurant
2012 Clos Rougeard Les Poyeux 85 € at a restaurant

2005 Allemand Reynard Cornas for 110 euros (at a restaurant in Bordeaux of all places

Ok, you win

I grabbed 3 bottles of 2012 Duhart Milon for $50 each and a case of 2012 d’Armailhac for $27.50 each.

2010 Vieux Chateau Certan at $200
2012 Trotanoy at $145

2012 Chave Hermitage at a diner for $225.

Plus some of Ian’s cache of d’Armailhac. Loved getting 2014 Sociando at sub-$30 and 2014 Lanessan at $17!
