Bordeaux with 10-20 years and < $100

2005 d’Issan

Love that wine.

There are so many great Bordeaux that can be backfilled for under $100.

If you are looking to minimize your expenditure while getting a really good wine there are lots of good suggestions here. But honestly, if you are looking to maximize your wine value for under $100/bottle then the two wines you suggested in the OP, the 2005 Grand Puy Lacoste and 2005 Leoville Poyferre, are excellent choices. They are both great wines, although in very different styles (the LP more modern and flashy, the GPL very classic). I don’t know that you can do better than those two for under $100. In fact neither is available in the US for that price, so if you can actually get them for under $100 with good provenance I would just grab them.

Speaking of GPL I often see case auction pricing on the 1995 or 1996 at around $1000 or so. I’m still working on a case of the 1995 I bought some years back and have been very happy and look forward to following its future development.

Benchmark has a 1.5, magnum of the 2005 Grand Puy Lacoste for $224.00

Haven’t read the thread links, but I’ve been buying and loving Domaine de Chevalier for many decades. Thinking hard about cracking the first bottle of my case of 2005 as it is now getting cool here in Maine.

I have a sale listing in commerce corner that would have a lot of “fits” with what you seek in the OP, including many of the response recommendations. Not sure where in the US you are, Dinesh, but if a cool weather shipping window opens in the next month or so (it’s 80 in Miami today - too hot), I’m eager to sell:

BORDEAUX
1972 Chateau Lafite x1 $300
2000 Lafon Rochet x1 (lowest online US $75) $60
2000 Duhart Milon Rothschild x3 (lowest US $115) $100
2000 Pontet Canet x1 [$250 for the 2000 and 2001]
2001 Pontet Canet x1 [$250 for the 2000 and 2001]
2000 d’Issan x1 [$750 for all 6 2000 and 2005 bottles]
2005 d’Issan x5 [$750 for all 6 2000 and 2005 bottles]
2005 La Clotte x2 $60
2005 Kirwan x14 $95
2006 La Gaffeliere x6 $85
2004 Leoville Barton x6 $100
2005 Leoville Barton x14 $140

… and more. My post is at 90pt+ 2000-2005 Bordeaux FS in Miami (Leoville Barton, Pontet Canet, d'Issan, Kirwan, Gaffeliere...) - Commerce Corner - Wine Classifieds - WineBerserkers

Shameless plugging aside, I think the 2004 Leoville Barton that Mark R is offering up above is a really good candidate at $100/btl and fits the bill to a T.

2000 Branaire Ducru is drinking exceptionally well, and is in the $100 range.

I bought quite a few BDX in the 10-20 yr range from the K&L auctions. Just followed them weekly, found ones with good CT scores, and I scored some great gems. Best one was a 1986 Sociando for $40/bottle (x4). I now have over 5 cases of BDX to enjoy over the next few years while my younger stuff gets more cellar time.

Commerce Corner can be your friend also. Just post up in there you are looking for 10-20 yr BDX, and you’ll get a million PMs.
