What are the labeling rules for “villages” wines? What does this labeling signify? I assume that this means an aggregate of grapes from multiple villages, but why wouldn’t that just be a bourgogne? Example – cotes de nuits villages. I have seen more regional labels as well… just Cotes de nuits no “villages.” How is that different?
AOC Cotes de Nuits Villages is limited to a few villages in the North (Brochon …) and South (Comblachien …) of the Cote de Nuits.
AOC Cotes de Beaune Villages can contain anything from the Cd.Beaune (red and white).
AOC Cote de Beaune (without Village)
is a separate small appellation on the hills above Beaune
A “Bourgogne” can come from anywhere from Beaujolais to Chablis … which is different and simpler.
