Cellartracker app - Beta version

Anyone testing it out yet? I’m just getting into it but it’s different to say the least.

Is this a new app? If so, it the beta invite-only?

Yes, invite only.

I like it. Much easier to use and faster. Some functionality is missing, but I think they will fill in those gaps over time. Overall, I think it’s a huge step in the right direction.

Given that there are still some people who swear by the ancient “classic” web UI, I’m not too optimistic that these changes will be well-received by all users.

Classic UI is best UI.

Have not gotten the invite, but very curious to see it when it rolls out

I’ve been using the CellarTracker app on iOS devices for a couple of years and seldom need to go to the web version. Is there a new app version that’s being beta tested?

This is good to hear. I like the classic UI, but it can be slow and a bit too step-by-step.

For me the web version is vastly superior to and much more powerful than the current app version. There’s plenty of room for improvement on the app version. It’s clunky, balky, and inflexible and often requires several actions for something you could do on the web version with one or two clicks. I’m thrilled to hear there’s a new version in the works.

I’ve always felt I was able to do things pretty quick… Add a bottle, drink one, sort and filter by the basics. Where I’ve always felt it struggled is with navigation primarily and ore advanced reporting. Real estate is always an issue with a phone app so I can get why the later would maybe not work so well but navigation should be something more manageable.

I haven’t had the chance to see the beta version, but even though the current app is outdated it’s easy to use and pretty full functioned. My biggest gripe has always been when I add a wine or multiple wines to my cellar I want to see the details of that wine when it’s added.

I always use the web version when I’m doing major location updating or moving inventory.

Same here, easier to plan and true up overall.

I think navigation is the one thing that is most improved. It has a much better layout and seems a little more intuitive.

That’s great news actually. It’s dial tone for any app. If your can’t get in and out of the basics yet alone the fancier features, it becomes a why bother.

So now I’ll just patiently wait.

Is the responsiveness of the app improved? I use the app on iOS, and the lag kills me. I tap the button to navigate back a screen and then…wait. It makes me want to throw my phone across the room in frustration.

Beta: I can’t see how to sort Tasting Notes by I’m a Fan first- not an option in “Sort by”.

Yes, that is one of the major improvements.

I’ve been enjoying the beta app. There are some annoying quirks (e.g. needing to re-authenticate too often, some failed bottle uploads) that I’ve chalked up to the beta and I’m sure will be resolved before full rollout.

There are some feature gaps and I miss some of the familiarity of the legacy app, but the new version is undoubtedly a cleaner, faster product. I’ve also reported a bug I found with the “sort” feature and it was quickly resolved.

I’m a bit surprised to hear about the feature gaps. I had dinner with Eric at the beginning of the year and he showed me an alpha/beta version on his phone. I figured they were holding off on the release this long to get everything in it.

Can I get an invite @Eric_LeVine to the beta app

Thanks.
