Remarkable that with thousands of available lots there is not a discussion on here.
Not that I’m watching the auction, but I’m not seeing a lot of the threads I used to see. No discussion of the Rhys or Realm releases that pop up.
I was a big fan of the TCWC auctions in the past, but they seem to have moved to a model whereby their auction lots are simply their current stock on hand, with starting bids set at or VERY slightly below market. I haven’t seen any real deals since they changed models.
I used to follow TCWC auctions really closely until about a year ago when they added the buyers premium. it was so much steeper than winebid but with quantity and quality that doesnt seem to reach the same levels.
I don’t relate to much of this new forum.
there are thousands available monthly. Most with no bids
Picked up some Linne Calado at a good price (even with the buyer’s premium). However I do have the advantage of being local so I can go pick it up myself.
I’ve gone back to using TCWC after dropping Winebid for what I consider questionable business practices, or at least business practices I don’t agree with. They have access to the same kind of stuff that I used to use Winebid for - older California wines that haven’t really held their value over the years. I’ve had not problem with the quality of the bottles I’ve gotten from TCWC.
While it was great that TCWC used to be a no-buyer’s premium model, at the 20% they have now, it’s pretty much the same as everyone else, or a little lower. Like any other auction, I factor the buyer’s premium into what I’m willing to bid.
If you’re local, they deliver to several storage sites for free. That’s a big plus.
I am, but I pick up at the warehouse. That was one of the things that got me using Winebid back in the day because they had a warehouse in Elmhurst, Illinois. After they closed it and the shipping charges kicked in, it was a downhill slide from there.
I had forgotten all about the Chicago Wine Company. Cellar Tracker shows that I used to buy a lot from them in the early 2000’s. I should get back on that list.
Bought a ton of Reynvaan on the August sale at below member pricing including the fees and shipping. You really have to pick and choose. Best deal on there by far was 2012 CĂ´te Bonneville DuBrul Vineyard for $40 a bottle including all fees and shipping. It is over $100 on tracker and their higher end wines are solid. Low end not so much.
Consigned a few hundred “drinkers” earlier this year. Sold 99%. Just gotta stay on top of them about payment
2016 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Trajet Reserve (USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley)
This was the best deal of all their wines last night. $37 with shipping. I see average on tracker is $77.
