Heading to Chile at the New Year - looking for any fantastic vineyard/winery visits anyone might have. Will be outside Santiago, probably Maipo - and then up Atacama…but open to options!
May also fly over to Salta, Argentina if I have time!

Based on this video, I’d put Vina Vik high on my list. Grounds and facilities are breathtaking. Heard good things about the wine, but haven’t tried personally.
Thank you so much for this…beautiful.
It’s not a winery, but I very highly recommend Borago if you’ll be in Santiago.
Go down to Colchagua. I forget the name of the tour operator we hired but they drove us down in a Mercedes van and we visited 4 wineries. Great day and good wines!
Thanks Jeff!
We did Viu Manent, I believe this was our last stop and they fed us here. Viña Laura Hartwig, very very good wine here. We also hit Lapostolle, which is an incredible stop for the winery and of course the wine.
I want to say it was 2.5 hours each way from Santiago.
There’s closer wineries in the Maipo Valley. We did Concha y Toro and while the grounds were nice they poured us probably the most basic bottlings. I wasn’t impressed but I’m sure a higher end tasting of their better wines would be good.
Manet is decent. Food option is nice
Clos apalta is gorgeous. Worth visiting
Went to look up the wine tour operator, they are no longer in business. Shame because they had a nice tour for us. What was funny is it was myself and my wife, then girlfriend and the rest of the people in the van were ALL Uber executives. I hadn’t used Uber before and they gave us some code to use while we were in Santiago for discounts.
Laura Hartwig had a horse drawn carriage ride through the vineyard that was really nice.
They have a little tasting room there where you can buy pours of Don Melchor, Almaviva, etc. It’s a big commercial operation, but we had a nice time.
We were in a tour group out of Santiago and unfortunately just got the base tasting. We couldn’t peel off from the group to try the other wines. Be nice to go back and try their better wines. Maybe next trip down there. My buddy wants to go to Mendoza and taste around.
We did the same thing, but had some extra time after the tour. It was actually my first winery visit and the Almaviva was my epiphany wine!
I think they took us up into the mountains after and we hiked the Andes then went to a thermal spa to swim.
Well that was an added bonus!
Oooo…thermal spa sounds like a great plan for the bones…this winegrower ain’t getting any younger lol.
We went two years ago.
We stayed at Vik.
The resort arranged a trip to Clos Apalta. Beautiful winery.
We stayed at Vik last year for a few days. The wine is excellent (their Milla Cala is a fantastic QPR), and the accommodations are amazing. Definitely do a tour of their facility, it’s absolutely incredible! We also did a short trip to Montes for lunch - we only had some of their Cabernet, but it was nice iirc. If you’re in Santiago, we did a tasting flight at Bocanariz which our family really enjoyed!
Bonus if you like coffee: Singular Coffee Roasters was one of my absolute favorite coffee shops I’ve ever visited. It’s a tiny shop with super friendly baristas and an amazing list of coffees (multiple geshas and sidras on the menu). Complete surprise to me and absolutely blew me away.
Ooh, I love coffee…and beer…and coffee…and beer…which I suppose makes me a proper winemaker. Thank you guys so much for these tips!
Not sure where he is located geographically but I think you would enjoy Louis-Antoine. I met him many years ago and remember him fondly.
Thank you Robert! I’ll look into him, as he sounds like my kind of guy - I hope all is amazing with you!
