They (purport to) have a few things that are quite difficult to find at reasonable prices, but I was wondering whether anyone here has actually successfully purchased from them and had the wines delivered to the US (and if so how). They haven’t responded to e-mails asking the same question, which doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, but if people here have had good experiences I’d take that into account.
One time, they sent the wrong case of wine to the US. They reimbursed me for my costs for the wine and shipping and arranged for the wine to be picked up the wine from me. I thought it was going to be a logistical nightmare but it was the opposite.
Paul is in DC Charlie, why would he want to have wine imported to SF area, to then be shipped across the country, risking temp fluctuations, unless going by refrigeration in trucks or very expensive air freight?
Define ‘very reasonable cost’? Specifically price per case or bottle, then add in cost to ship across the country. If it’s <$100/btl purchase price from Fine + Rare, then the actual to his door arrival price could very well be 2x that.< your idea of ‘reasonable’…going to depend on what the wine in question is, if it was Dom Perignon current vintage…no way?
Stop with the verbal diarrhea unless you know what you’re talking about. Many many people on the east coast and midwest use Adventures in Wine due to their excellent reputation.
I’m surprised you didn’t quote Binpin, the winemakers from WS, Allen Meadows in this thread and their experiences with importing and their analysis of reasonable costs.
I have wine there now that needs to be shipped. They will send it to Seabrooks in London. I’m about to contact Cellar Advisors to handle the shipping. They would probably ship to St. Louis and then back to DC if you’re interested. Let me know.
Excellent experiences in every way, price, condition, logistics, etc. I add $120/case over and above the shipping cost from a east coast or west coast retailer to determine if I like the Fine & Rare price.
Thanks, Lewis - helpful benchmark. This is more a question of availability than price; I did poke around their Burgundy list a bit and had the general impression that their prices weren’t aggressive enough to overcome my general bias in favor of supporting my “regulars,” but I’m sure mileage varies.
Agree with Lewis. I bought from them quite a few times and used their recommended shipper without any issues. Their prices are not so competitive with the dollar so weak.
Another vote here for F&R as a reliable merchant. All the above is correct about shipping. I have no idea if they will do it, but you could even try walking in to a store like MacArthur’s and ask them if they can import it for you to the DC area.
