From an email just sent out;

I am excited to announce the launch of > http://www.vinousmedia.com> , which will go live on Monday May 20, 2013.

With Vinous, our vision is to create the world’s most vibrant wine community by bringing together professional reviews, a collection of expert voices, multimedia and, importantly, the opinions of our readers.

Our first release includes articles on the 2009 Barolo vintage, the Champagne Spring Preview and much more. Readers will also have access to my historical database of articles and reviews.

Subscriptions are $120 for one year or $200 for two years. Vinous also offers a premium subscription at $210 per year that gives readers priority access to events, tastings and additional special offers. As we hear from our reader community over the coming months we will introduce more subscription choices with the goal of giving readers the most flexibility possible.

All the best,

Antonio

Maybe one of those “subscription choices” will be a price that is within the bounds of reason.

Like Netflix?

How many highly-paid wine critics can dance on the head of a pin?

Bruce

20? 30? 35?

Oh, that was rhetorical???

after recently canceling EBob after 9 years, I think I may jump on. I like Italian wine, but i’m still learning at this stage and he is reliable there for sure.

It will be interesting to see how much content he has at first.
That might help decide if it is worth the high price.
Phil Jones

It should include everything he produced for the Piedmont Report and the Wine Advocate/eRP.com plus new stuff. A lot of cool videos.

The only thing which would remotely make a wine website worth $200 odd per year would be if the promised “tastings” and “events” are really incredible and having such a subscription is the only way to gain access.

Just my two cents but I’d never subscribe to a site with tiered pricing for access. If the basic rate is not enough to get full access then I’m not playing. Just my opinion.

Being an Aussie I subscribe to

The Winefront ($45), (www.winefront.com.au IMHO probably the best bang for buck tasting site for everything Australian)
The Wine Companion ($40)
Cellar Tracker ($36) (not that I use it anymore but decided I have to support the great site it is for the notes and concept)

and still have change from a 1 year sub. Maybe he is aiming towards the World of Fine Wine magazine type subscribers?
