Gamay Noir, the Greater Burgundian Refresher

(Title complements of Jancis Robinson)

Just made my annual order of 2013 RMP Wines Gamay Noir “from the Witters and Barsotti vineyards above the town of Placerville in the Sierra Foothills. Both vineyards were planted in granitic soils that are similar to those found in the hills above Beaujolais in France.”

Steve Edmunds also makes a beauty from the same region.

While there appear to be few GN practitioners in California, the product itself can be very nice indeed! Focused, energetic, floral and exuberant!

Nice title, and I agree with Robinson’s characterization of Gamay. I’ve tried only the inaugural vintage of this wine. It was quite drinkable but their prices are ridiculous.

Not prepared to pay $30 (plus shipping and tax) for this when delicious, serious Bojo from the likes of Thivin, Brun and Piron can be had for around $20. (Or, for that matter, Edmunds’ Bone Jolly can be had for $18.)

Wow, $30 can buy Roilette Cuvee Tardive with money to spare.
