Help me spend $$$

God bless my dad, I asked him for a bottle of Keller for Christmas and he delivered last year, this year he got me a gift certificate to Vinopolis in Oregon and I need to spend it.

Looking through their inventory there are lots of goodies that I want, but I thought with more eyes and more experience I could end up with something really interesting.

I’ve got about $100-$150 to spend, prefer 1-2 bottles (although the 15’ bojo’s are calling) and am almost completely open (no Cali cab or Washington red) so what would you do?
Im looking at Keller again, Jamet and others, but if there is another German, Austrian or Loire that I have to have pipe up!

Thanks!

I would be very sorely tempted by the magnums of 2015 Donnhoff GG from Delchen or Felsenberg. Both in your price range. Great maker and great year and surely great wines (I bought them in 750s but…magnums!)

Brodie

If they have any Burgundy, try that.

Hang on…I’ll go look quickly if you haven’t already decided.

So help me if you start recommending that blueberry milkshake stuff again…

I kid.

Jason, I’d probably suggest you add a few bucks and get a case of the 2015 Hofgut Falkenstein Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Kabinett for $219. I tasted through a good part of the 2015 Falkenstein lineup and they are delicious. Plus, when you buy a case, your per bottle shipping costs are far more reasonable.

Anyhow, that’s what I would do.

Wines to broaden your horizon with
2011 CHAPOUTIER ST JOSEPH GRANITS BLANC ($59) 100% Marsanne
N.V. EQUIPO NAVAZOS #35 BOTA DE FINO ($49) A great way to try world-class dry Sherry.
N.V. CHRISTOPHE MIGNON BRUT ROSE ($49) 100% Pinot Meunier
2014 CLOS DE LA ROILETTE GRIFFE DU MARQUIS ($33) BUY IT…if you love BOJO you should have one bottle of this to age.

Wines to age and be patient with
2010 CAVALLOTTO BAROLO RISERVA SAN GIUSEPPE ($99) (DO NOT OPEN BEFORE 2025)
2008 PRODUTTORI DEL BARBARESCO RABAJA ($99) this is a brilliant wine for the $$$

These could be cool to do a side by side comparison:
2013 GIACOMO CONTERNO BARBERA CERRETTA ($59)
2013 GIACOMO CONTERNO BARBERA CASCINA FRANCIA ($69)

Nope…they don’t sell that there. [cheers.gif]

Three year vertical of Belle Pente Murto? Mag of Close Electrique Blanc?

Michael

Yeah, 2015 Donnhoff in magnums is hard to argue with [even if it’s GG].

In addition to being very strong in Donnhoff, they also have a large selection of FX Pichler [although curiously almost no Hirtzberger].

If it were for “drink now” purposes, then they have a 2004 Fevre Les Clos which has a reasonably good track record at the wiki.

PS: They’ve got a Donnhoff TBA for $1K - I’ve never seen anything like that at retail.

The order I’m waiting for contains
2015 Willi Schaefers
2015 merkelbach urgluck auslese
Valdespino tonneles
Benoit Lahaye Jardin de la Grosse Pierre

So obviously I think those are good choices

I LOVE spending other people’s money:

WIND GAP SYRAH NELLESSEN VYD 2014 750ML $39
BEDROCK THE BEDROCK HERITAGE SONOMA RED 2013 750ML $39
CAPARZO BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO RISERVA 2010 750ML $69

Lots of great rec’s, lots to ponder…
Thought about the mags of Donnhoff, didn’t see the Cavolotto or the Clos Electrique blanc mag…hmmm

Not helping you spend, but will gladly help you drink any of these fine choices!

We’ll have to get together one of these days, haven’t had time to do anything since the little one arrived!

Absolutely! I’ll be at Holy Mountain next weekend for their 2nd Anniversary festivities. Prob around 4:30ish on Friday and some time Saturday evening. You should try to make it over - should be stellar tap lists both days. Hoping I can try Corpse Reviver!

If you go this route, take the Dellchen. I just tasted these two side by side (need to post notes), and though the Felsenberg is good, the Dellchen is exceptional. Keep in mind that Riesling mags are extremely tall, so you need almost a double-deep slot to fit one.

I like your thinking and those wines!

…in the same vein I am waiting on a 6 pack of 2013 Schloss Gobelsberg Riesling Tradition.

I tasted with Corey, and concur strongly.

You could get a 375 of 2015 Donnhoff BA and one base Kabinett. [cheers.gif]

Again, thanks for the rec’s, the thing I’ve got about 250cs of wine so not really looking for a 6 pk or case, although both those rec’s are now on my radar, I’m looking for more of a ‘my wife would kill me if I spent $100 on a bottle of wine, but now I can, type of bottle’…
