Koolr Units

I have a Koolr 300 unit that is starting to Die. I looked to buy a mirror replacement as this one is 10 years old. I cannot seem to find one for sale. I also looked for a 600 unit which I think is the same in wall Dimensions. Does anybody know of a Comparable replacement? I would like to just put in where old unit was with minimal adjustment to wall. If someone knows where to get the Koolr 300 or 600 that would be optimal. If not, I would appreciate any suggestions on what else to do.
Thanks Al

i had a similar issue years ago and finally was able to convince them to sell me an upgrade at a lower price - something they used to do if they felt the original didn’t last as long. i’m now of the opinion that a tiny standard wall ac is likely the way to go as these things fail and are very difficult to repair. also, with global supply constraints, they are likely feeling some delays.

that said, if you can find a hvac person to repair it, it’s doable.

To my knowledge KoolR are fairly uniquely dimensioned for a wine cooler. I bought a magnum after my experiment with a regular AC window unit failed as it saved having to redo to window cutout.

Not sure if the current shortage is temporary or permanent, but you might be able to stop gap with a traditional window AC while you shop for another unit or get yours repaired.

There are threads here about using trad AC (search kenmore) I was unable to get it to something I was happy with so reverted to the KoolR (which has been great especially for the price)

a temp plug like this: Amazon.com

plus any tiny, manual AC (easily under $200) would be more powerful and so much cheaper than a dedicated wine cooler.

at a bit more money, you could do the same with a small portable AC unit and just fabricate an insulated vent to match the existing hole.

Amazon Link not opening. Could you send another link?

I have another question knowledgeable people hopefully can answer. If I decide to limp along with my dying unit, how much if any damage to the wine will occur if room sits at Room Temperature about 65-70 degrees for a couple of months. Would rather wait for my replacement so I don’t have to cut up walls to fit another unit. Figured I’d ask!!

Seems like they are simply out of stock due to the impacts of covid.

From KOOLR PLUS Magnum - Koolspace | Wine Cellar Cooling
“OUT OF STOCK Please note we are uncertain on arrival times for the KoolR Magnum. Originally, we believed the next North American container would be arriving in the fall, but now we are not as certain on timelines and feel it will be much longer. Please order yours to reserve your spot in the queue. Please note, we will NOT charge your credit card until we have a cooling unit in stock, allocated to you and you have approved any potential price changes. Ordering the Magnum now, puts your name in the priority queue to be contacted once the cooling units arrive to see if you still want to proceed with your purchase.”

Coolers – KoolR simply shows them as “sold out”

They used to offer a discount if you were replacing a KoolR with another Koolr. I have had two of the 600s. The first one failed at three years old. The second has lasted 13 years and is going strong. I bought a replacement a few years ago expecting a shorter lifespan, Evidently I have just been lucky as the quality is reported to vary significantly from unit to unit.

not ideal, but first confirm that’s the actual range. if that’s as hot as it gets in the worst of summer, you’re in pretty good shape already. the problem with a dying unit is that at some point it could blow out hot air.

This link should work; noting I have never used one of these or tried the window air conditioner approach - just helping with the link:

If the highest you get is 70 for a few months, I, personally, would have zero concern whatsoever. Nil. If the unit crashes and gets in the 80’s I would worry- but even slightly above room temps for a short period is not going to impact your wine.

sorry about that - it comes up as an ad for some reason.

bumping this old thread- I’m in the same boat now. Koolr has died… no hope of a replacement model… shopping for something that is as minimally disruptive to the wall cutout…

portable AC attached to a thermostat inside the cellar. you may have to actively manage the humidity, but that’s also easy and cheap.
