What type of thoughts? I’ve bought one but won’t be drinking it any time soon.

I’ve heard a few reports from friends with good palates: effusive praise has been the unanimous reaction.

Was hoping for a tasting note or just a comment regarding how CdM has done in '08.

Have been offered 2 Bouteilles at ~1100 each and think about pulling the trigger.

Besides, I am afraid Krug continues to raise prices especially for the Collection and Mesnils (not even to talk of CdA) which would mean I’d rather backfill now than wait for the future.

I have heard such rumours, and those were not from people without a deeper knowledge of the Maison (I am trying to articulate this very cautiously).

I have been lucky enough to have had this wine twice, and in both cases it was incredibly impressive. Citrus notes of Le Mesnil, vibrant acidity of 2008, and hints of the toasty/nutty thing of Krug. I was impressed how it was already showing, even though it will be so much better over time - no awkward/disjointed/austere unpleasantness, which stands in stark contrast to the Krug 2008 vintage (but that’s another story). I am a huge Krug CdM fan and in my view this is the best since the epic '96. I have also bought but have no intention of opening them anytime soon.

best US price published is $2500, makes not purchasing an easy decision.

Pricing is all over the place. Krug are playing games, and it’s an odd market.

I got my bottle direct for just over £1000 but others with direct allocations are selling for £3500.

K&L had it a few days ago (July 6) @ $1699.99. If one had auction credits to spend, that places it at $1445 or £1125.

They only had 3 bottles, limit 1 per customer. It sold out in minutes…

Here’s my notes on the champagne:

  • 2008 Krug Champagne Clos du Mesnil - France, Champagne (07-12-2022)
Krug CdM has been, and will always be, my number one dream wine. This was the first (and probably also the last) time I tasted this - and the marvelous 2008 at that!!!

Color was already a nice deep straw with a golden touch - tiny and very lively bubbles that lasted the whole glass even with swirling.

Nose was extremely deep and explosive. Citrus fruits, green apple and green pear were the main drivers as you could really feel the youth and freshness of this monster. There were some tropical hints, greengage, churned butter and toasted brioche hiding in there as well. Slight hint of toffee. The nose is quite intense yet it feels so light and elegant, and you can even in the nose feel that crazy 2008-acidity and minerality...

Now the palate... For a somewhat freshly disgorged Chardonnay with 12-13 years on the lees this just has the most insane weight and heavy/creamy mouthfeel - and at the same time there's a completely ethereal lightness and elegance dancing around. Paired with the crazy 2008-acidity that feels so electric like it's zapping the taste buds - and still feels so well-integrated with the rest of the wine.
Citrus fruits, green apple, green pear, greengage, churned butter, slight nuttiness and the overall autolytic notes are there but very soft yet playing nicely with the fruit and the extremely mineral-driven wine!
The wine just lingers in the mouth for AGES - both the highly acidic citrus fruits but also a touch of butter and toffee...

This is obviously very young and fresh, and I feel it would benefit greatly by 10-20 years of bottle age to really hit that absolutely perfect peak...
I want to score this 100 so badly, but I landed on 99 at this point because this wine truly has it all - but it's extremely young while holding the weight, precision, complexity and elegance to go the full mile.
Extremely humbled by the chance of trying a wine like this - even in its youth. (99 points)

Anyone tasted this side-by-side to CdM 2006? Magnums now available already, my guess is that the latter are to be prefered for longer cellarage, aren´t they?

Yes

Yes and with 164 and '08 Vintage. The '08 CdM is the clear winner and the 164 is pretty close and much cheaper. The '06 CdM is good, but '08 is definitely better. '08 Vintage was my least favorite of the flight although better than previous bottles.
