Liminal Winery

Anyone on the list for the initial release? I signed up for Tier 2 and am curious to hear people’s thoughts if they’ve tried the wines…

They’re making wine from WeatherEye Vineyard in WA, which I’m familiar with via Travis Allen’s Kobayashi label and his Viognier (fantastic wine!)

Jeb seems to have given them the thumbs up with scores in the mid 90’s but again, curious to see if anyone on the board has tried any

Cheers!

I’m listed in tier 2 as well. However, I know nothing about the wines. Like you I saw Jebs good reviews but was hoping I would get some more intel between when I signed up and the release. Hopefully, someone can share some insight.

I’m waiting for their second label: Subliminal

Just picked up my order today. I joined the list late so unfortunately missed out on the Viognier (which I was hoping to compare vs the Kobayashi Viognier) but got everything else. Haven’t opened anything yet but might open a GSM sometime next week.

I also picked mine up today, a 3 pack of each Syrah.

I didn’t know they had a Viognier. Wasn’t offered that.

I’m waiting for their Reserve: Supraliminal.

I have a feeling I’m going to love their Subliminal Wines but I don’t know why…

I picked some wines from there on Sunday. My first impression was the massive amount of cardboard they used to pack the bottles. I think the cardboard weighed more than the wine.

Somehow this winery slipped under my radar. I had visited WeatherEye, and got a terrific tour from Ryan Johnson in early 2017, I think before they had a name for the winery, or even the vineyards. I signed up for waiting list today, and will see what (or if) I will get any of the 2019 wines. To me, this is cutting edge vineyard stuff, unlike anything else on Red Mountain, or anywhere else in Washington. I know the wine-making at Avennia, and have had some of their early wines, so I’d expect these to be top tier as well, and only improve as the vines get a bit of age, and the team gets more knowledgeable about the whole venture.

Here is a link to the CT thread that has a bunch of photos we took during our 2017 visit https://www.cellartracker.com/forum/fb.asp?m=423237

I have a feeling they’ll be sublime.

Got on the list in 2018 (I think?) before the first release last year. Lucky I know a wine maker in WA who gets a small bit of fruit from WeatherEye and turned me onto the entire site back then. Amazing stuff. Only picked up 3 packs of GSM and the less expensive Syrah before committing to the higher priced options in the future. Both were very, very good for an initial release. Didn’t get the Viognier which I’d guess was a mistake but I’ll definitely be grabbing that and their Grenache in May when the next allocation drops. I’ve heard from several people WeatherEye will be the place for WA Grenache going forward. We’ll see!

I remember one Grenache plot that was head trained in a bowl shaped canyon where the road goes up. Absolutely immaculate but only a few acres. There were different blocks all over but still not big acreages. I’m interested in the north slope white Rhône’s and will be interested to see what all gets made. The stone pile Mourvèdre is also fascinating and I remember wondering when I first saw it, no vine growth yet, that “Damn those will be expensive wines.”
