McMinnville (or thereabouts) Rec Needed

Looking for recommendations for places to stay in McMinnville next month. We thought about the Springbrook Nut Farm, but I suspect it will be too hot in August.

Okay, places to eat too, but I could probably figure that out on my own.

Thanks.

McMenamins Oregon Hotel is quirky and fun. Google it and check out the reviews on TripAdvisor: if it looks like fun, then you’ll probably enjoy yourself there. If it looks weird, look elsewhere.

For eats, I’d head next door to Nick’s Italian Cafe for their prixe fixe dinner, a great OR wine list, and the best minestrone in the universe.

Definitely second McMenamins. Very casual, if that’s what you are looking for. Has a brewery, movie theater, glass blowing and an exec golf course on property.

Josh, I think you’re thinking of some of the other McM’s properties: Edgefield in Troutdale or the Grand Lodge in Forest Grove. I believe the Oregon Hotel in McMinnville is pretty much just the hotel building, albeit with a restaurant, wine cellar, and rooftop bar.

Steve - You are correct, at least, the McMenamins I stayed at was in downtown McMinneville(rooftop bar, wine cellar, rooms very relaxed/laid back, rather inexpensive but we liked it for what it was), and it was right next door to Nicks Italian Cafe.

We ate at Nicks two nights actually. Had the prix fixe menu in the front part of the restaurant one night, and ate in the rear of the restaurant the next night which had small plates and pizzas I believe.

If you need a cold beer in between all the Oregon wines, Nicks had Heater Allen on tap when I was there, which was a smaller local brewery in McMinneville. I don’t know him personally but I know he posts occasionally. Might even reach out to him. Enjoy!
